Mountain Biking Fred Young
#65 of 202 mountain bike trails in Tennessee
This trail is tough. It's not fun. If you are in excellent shape and enjoy a lot of climbing and tight turns where you almost fall down on your bike, then maybe you will enjoy it. There are maybe 5 sections where you can move under the power of momentum for more than 3 or 4 seconds and you had better watch out on those parts. There always seems to be a tree trunk, two trees about a foot apart or a nasty turn that goes up, to the left and behind while also climbing an off camber hill at the end of any fast spot. Don't expect more than an 8 MPH average, and that's if you're in excellent shape and are considered a mountain bike guru by all of your friends.
Not for beginners, families or people lacking strength or stamina. The average weekend warrior will probably not like this trail much either.
Having said all that, if you want to gain skills on your bike and beat yourself into shape, this is an excellent trail.

From Jackson go south on HWY 45 toward Henderson. Leave Jackson completely, passing a new Walmart Supercenter on the right. About a mile or two past that the highway splits away from a undivided four lane nightmare into a real highway with a median. Not very far from where the median begins Fred Young park is on the left. The first parking lot with a pavillion is where the trail begins, but there are two or three places you can start.
