Mountain Biking Governor's Creek

****   Add a review
#53 of 549 mountain bike trails in North Carolina
#1,099 in the world

This is a pretty fast course with varied trail type. The first mile is pretty fast and not very technical. The entire course is heavily wooded and gets kinda nasty when it rains. The next two miles is fairly technical and not nearly as fast as the trail winds through the woods and across several streams and washed out gullies. The last 1.5 miles is fast and straight and takes you around the entire course once again. For the most part this is down hill and very fast. Towards the very end of the loop, the trail makes its way back up to the parking area. This loop is known as the race loop; Champion loop is another loop that I believe goes around the course staying on the non-technical outer rim used by the race course. A pretty good ride. Similar to San Lee but a little faster.

Really cool trail on private land. Two loops, race loop and challenge loop. The trail is fairly well labeled and easy to follow. There are a couple splits that look confusing, but most of them are a feature and the other direction is a bypass.

Several of the features are really a lot of fun and well executed, I especially enjoyed the rock garden that was in a downhill section.

One thing of note: I wish the pink warning sign about riding when wet was at the trailhead. It wasn't wet when I rode, but if it had been I wouldn't have appreciated a threatening sign once I had ridden 75% of the trail, telling me to "have my ID ready". I understand this is private land, I respect that, and I understand why the land owner wouldn't want you destroying his trail when it's wet. Point is, you should be stopping these people that ride wet trails before they even get on the trail. Put the sign at the trail head!

Good flowing track for beginners and intermediate riders. Don't know if I took a wrong turn and doubled up some of the course but I logged just over 5.5 miles not 4. To me that was a bonus

Plan to ride this trail this weekend. I have only ridden San-Lee and I felt like that was way too rough for my hardtail. I will update my review once I return from the ride this weekend, hoping for very little precipitation. I used to ride trails in Florida which were pretty flat and smooth.

Looks like some trees have come down, but they have built new trails around them. Just as good and flowing as always!!

Great fun. Semi-technical rock garden descent. Good traction. Lots of roots. Some log obstacles and a few jumps. Neat little historical signs to justify taking a breather. Cheers to the private landowner for allowing the trails. Cheers to the area riders for taking good care.

Fantastic trail with a little bit of everything. Well maintained and fun to ride. There are two main loops that can be combined for about ten miles total. Trail flows very well despite some of the rooted areas. Good for riders with intermediate levels of experience.

If you find yourself in the southern pines area this trail is definitely worth the 30 minute trip to get there. There are several sections that flow but overall the trail runs down washouts and up and over small ridges and hills. All in all, a fun ride.

Well this trail starts off very very deceptive, then the fun begins. The trail is very well marked and all the advance jumps, and added side trails are marked well in advance. I used the directions from this app and had no issue what so ever finding this place. The trails are very maintained. It does keep you off the saddle once you start, but where there is an up there is a down. The parking is nice and spacious. I would highly recommending this trail for the locals are a group passing through town. Not as technical as San Lee Park but enough to get the heart rate going. The jumps on this course are marked well in advance so do not worry about breaking a leg or collar bone, you can easily go around them.

I rode the trail for the first time and I'm basically a beginner...I LOVED it! There was a great mixture of hills, inclines, and technical maneuvering to keep you on your toes and off your seat yet to leisurely crank it out! We did the Race Loop which was 6.8 miles. The trail is well maintained and marked.

Directions: The roads did not register on my GPS so I went "old school" and used the directions from the Google map link. They were accurate and I located the trail head easily.

Trail: The trail was well marked and with the exception of two large tree falls it was pretty clean. It was fast and offered some semi challenging jumps, turns with moderate climbs and a few serpentine bowls. The ground was mostly clay with some sandy spots but they were not so soft they slowed you down. I really enjoyed this trail and it will be one of my go to trails in the area.

New additions have been added recently that give good flow. Many roots have popped up over the wet winter we had making it more difficult to go as fast as I could last year. All in all a really great trail though.

Really great trail. Still was wet from snow melt so I didn't get as fast as I'm sure the trail would permit. Lots of fun sections and elevation you cannot get in the Fayetteville area. Has dirt, sand, mud, rocks, bridges, jumps, etc. Ii did the "race" section first which dumps off into the "challenge" section which is longer and will bring you directly back to the parking area. Grateful the guy who owns the property "lets" people ride there. Looking forward to riding it when dry.

Haven't been to this track in more than a year and I forgot how fast it gets. Its truly the best trail in the Fort Bragg area!

I was recommended this one as my first trail to ride since I am a total noob at mountain biking. It was somewhat difficult on my first outing but the more I ride it the more I love it. This trail is privately owned and the guys do a great job with the signage. It has a ton of roots so line choice is pretty critical. Props to the trail guys here for keeping it going and letting us enjoy the land!

The property IS privately owned, thus the signs. They are there to deter hunters, motorcycle/dirtbike riders, etc. They are also for liability purposes.
