Rail trail in far southwestern Virginia. Very easy - 12 miles roundtrip through state scenic river gorge, part of recently designated 125-mile backroad/back country route system; this trail is bordered by sheer cliffs, hardwood trees and the river. Access is via U. S. Route 58-A at Coeburn, VA., then south on Route 72 for 2 miles and follow the signs, large parking area maintained by U.S. Forest Service. Coeburn is due west of Abingdon which is off of exits 17, 19, and 21 on Interstate 81.
