The ground is covered in a blanket of fallen leaves, creating a picturesque autumn landscape. A small informational sign can be seen along the path, indicating a nature trail. Mountain Biking Swayback Bridge Trail

****   Add a review
#17 of 110 mountain bike trails in Alabama
#1,729 in the world

This trail by Lake Jordan in Wetumpka is a new addition to mountain biking in ALabama. The trail is almost completely singletrack with some tight technical sections along with some steep climbs and decents. It is especially beautiful in the spring when the wild azaleas are blooming along the lake. Mile markers and direction arrows are present on the trail. Maps of trail are available at trailhead.

Over 11 miles of trails that consist of fast flowing single tracks, good climbs and great scenery on Lake Jordan. Like most places in the Southeast it does have roots throughout but that adds to your opportunity to Bump them to get some sweet air. The trail system provides a bit of everything for the beginner to the more advanced. The signage is good/decent with several options to choose from and a great map at the entrance to help guide you(take a pic of it with your phone before you hit the trail). For the technical rider be sure to hit "Big Zipper and Lil Zipper and The Devils Driveway. For the workout enthusiast hit the Power Lines and 2 mile hill and the Elevator. It this is not a fast and thrilling day of riding with total exhaustion at the end then you do not ride hard enough. Be sure to ride the paved road to Swayback Bridge for a beautiful sunset in the evening.

Why does the trail deserve a 1 star review for nature existing at it?

In July 2017 my friend and I road Swayback and found the trails to be poorly maintained and were constantly fighting the roots crossing the trail. In its present condition this is a black/blue trail in my opinion and needs a lot of work to bring it back to blue. I will not be making a trip back to Swayback again until this is done. Its just not a fun trail.

On our way from Nashville to the beach and thought we would drive partway in one day to make the drive shorter. Originially planned to ride Oak Mt in B'Ham but decided to drive a bit further to Prattville. Found Swayback on Singletracks so drove over from Prattville. Trails were fun and fairly easy - just a few hills and roots made for a bit of a challenge. Loved 2-Mile hill trail best . Y'all can keep "elevator ". I know- there are some nuts out there that love to climb. No thanks. You do have to share the trails with walkers but overall very low volume and every person we encountered was more than courteous. Probably would not make a special trip to ride here but if you happen to be in Wetumpa ( but why would you ) definitely worth it.

Nice remote location on Lake Jordan (locally pronounced 'Jerdan' if you're looking to gel with the locals). Not very well marked, with various different loops. Nice elevated views, some good hills, a good bit of roots and rocks, but nothing too difficult to traverse.

Good trails if your in the area. The trails flow pretty well and you can get a workout if you ride them all. The elevator is fun and the most exciting part of the network. A great place for the beginner/intermediate but if you want more excitement I would go to up the road to Auburn and ride Chewacla state park.

Fun and challenging trail. It has everything. Multi directional bridge is broken. It could be marked better in a couple of places. I will be back for payback on the elevator.

Great intermediate trail.....hilly.....rooty....flowy.....this trail system is great.....couldn't really follow the trail markers, but who cares just keep riding and you'll eventually end up back where you came from.....I liked it a lot....will be back

A fun challenging ride. Lots of hills, roots, rocks. Trail is narrow in areas. Very fast in other areas. Hills can be long up and bumpy and fast down. Loved the challenge

Trail markings could use improvement, and the multi-directional bridge is broken, but..

Lots of variety. The roots, gravel, and tight sections keep it techy. The blast you'll have with the Zipper, 2mile Hill, and Devil's Driveway.. do ride this one.

I reviewed this trail a year ago and it appears that some work has been done. The trail is a lot of fun and enjoyable. I had a little difficulty with the trail markings in a few areas, but that could just be me....fun ride for the area

Rode this trail twice over two days. Fun trail . Changing area and water hose available. Novice rider had fun on the easier trails. More advanced rider enjoyed the trails and views. Easy drive from Montgomery.

Rode this trail on June 27, 2014. The trail is pretty well maintained, but if you are the first to ride for the day and you lead, plan to clean the spiderwebs off of you as you ride!

I would classify the trail as an intermediate level trail. The trail is a bit technical and does have some tough climbs, lots of rocks and roots, and a few drop-offs that can be problematic. It does have a few fast downhill sections, and I enjoyed the "Zipper" section as others have. Overall, I found it a challenging trail, but would ride it again if opportunity presented itself.

Good trail that is not overly difficult but some of the climbs have many roots making them a challenge. A couple of short downhill sections are fun. I really enjoyed the zipper. Trail is easy to follow with trail marking posts. Will come back and ride again.

This was a fun trail to ride. There are a lot of places that the ditching is too deep and you have pedel strike. With a little maintenance, this could be a great trail.

Good trail to ride if you are from the area. I wouldn't drive more then an hour considering the other options near by.

Rode yesterday in the am. Never ran into so many spider webs in my life. Other than that good ride in some cool weather, a nice change from absurdly hot rides of late.
Other than the Zipper and Devils Backbone this trail is good XC and is rather boring. That being said the trail is well maintained and a solid choice for a quick ride.
There are a couple areas with decent views of Lake Jordan.

Fun trail system it was a little muddy when I went through as it had been raining quite a bit but the trail held up pretty well. Fr the most part it's a pretty easy trail but there are a few fast and fun hills.
