Shimano is ready to hand down their well tested 12-speed technology to the affordable Deore 6100 product line. It’s like your cool cousin handing down super hip leather pants so you can both look good at the party. The Osaka, Japan based component manufacturer also has new Deore 10- and 11-speed drivetrains with wider gearing ranges and other updates to spice up their affordability-minded offerings.

The newly released Deore 6100 drivetrain receives the same 10-51t cassette range as the SLX, XT, and XTR groupsets, fitted to their Micro Spline freehub. It clicks up and down the smooth Hyperglide+ shifting technology and the extended inner-link plate chain of its predecessors, all kept tidy and comfortable by Shimano’s I-Spec EV cockpit ergonomics system. The two-piece 6100 crank comes in 170 or 175mm lengths, with 30t and 32t direct mount chainring options.

The updated Deore lineup includes a set of hubs with center lock rotors, easily serviceable loose-ball bearings, and a Micro Spline freehub. The front HB-MT410 hub is available in 100mm or 110mm axle widths, drilled with 28, 32, or 36 spoke options. Rear FH-MT410 hubs come in 142 or 148mm widths, with 28, 32, or 36 spoke holes. Check with your local Shimano dealer for hub pricing.

To stop the show, Shimano has a new set of M6100 brakes that include two or four-piston calipers. The levers use the same clamping and bracing construction as the brand’s other brakes, to cleanly integrate with any of their dropper levers and shifters.

Riders who enjoy the simplicity and affordability of a 10- or 11-speed drivetrain can now have those gears in a wider range, with either single or double chainring setups. Both groupsets use clean I-Spec EV lever mounts, and maintain Shimano’s Shadow shifting technology and HG freehub compatibility. If you have a bike with the standard Shimano HG freehub design that you want to upgrade but you aren’t ready to part with your 10- or 11-speed compatible wheels, now you won’t have to.

The M5100 cassettes are available in 11-51t for single ring setups, or 11-42t for use with a front derailleur, and the M4100 10-speed cassette come in an 11-46 single-ring range, and 11-42 for pairing with dual chainrings. Cranks for the M5100 product line come with 30 or 32t single chainrings, and 2X 10/11 setups for either groupset come with 22-36t rings bolted on.

According to Shimano, either of these component groups will pair well with the “MT410 2-piston caliper to make an updated MT410 brake, [or] paired with existing BR-MT420 4-piston calipers to make an updated MT420 brake.”

M5100 and M4100 groupsets will be available in the coming weeks. Check with your local Shimano dealer for pricing and availability.
