What a difference a few months makes! Earlier this year new trail openings were pushed off due to various travel restrictions and stay at home orders. Now that it’s June, we’re tracking more than a dozen new mountain bike trails that have opened to the public this month.
High Hill Creek (Florence, South Carolina): With $100,000 in funding and support from the Atomic Mountain Biker club, the 4-mile High Hill Creek trails opened for business this month. The trails were designed and constructed by Benchmark Design.
Redhead (Chisholm, Minnesota): The 15-mile Redhead trail that begins at the Minnesota Discovery Center, and was ceated in cooperation with Iron Range Off Road Cyclists (IROC).
Bridal Veil Trail (Telluride, Colorado): The Bridal Veil trail technically opened at the end of May, but this scenic, 1-mile trail with views of Bridal Veil falls, is certainly a welcome alternative to the 4WD road riders previously used.
907 Trail (Sitka, Alaska): The 2-mile, one-way, bike-only 907 Trail opened to bikes this month. Built in cooperation with the Sitka Cycling Club.
South Holston Dam (Bristol, Tennessee): The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) added 4.2 miles of trails to the area around the South Holston Dam in June. The Yelling Trail is named for area Revolutionary War soliders who shouted during battle, and the Dam Builders trail is named in honor of those who built the nearby dam.
Trailblazer trail (McCook, Nebraska): The Red Willow Recreation area added a new 2-mile trail called Trailblazer that officially opened on June 13, 2020.
Mount Nebo State Park (Dardanelle, Arkansas): Phase II of the trail system at Mount Nebo State Park opened this month with an additional 18 miles of singletrack. Singletracks got an early look at the new, high quality trails which you can read about here.
Shangri La (Durango, Colorado): Purgatory Bike Park near Durango added a new trail in June called Shangri La. The lift-served trail features berms, a tunnel, and wooden features suitable for novice to advanced mountain bikers.
Palisade State Park (Sterling, Utah): Thanks to the efforts of the Manti Bike team and $20,000 in funding, a new 0.8-mile mountain bike trail opened in Palisade State Park this month.
Hespeler Bike Park (Niverville, Manitoba): A new bike park sprouted in Hespeler Park recently, build by local residents for mountain bikers and BMX riders to enjoy.
Mt. Abram Bike Park (Greenwood, Maine): Three descending trails and one climbing trail opened at Mt. Abram Bike park. The 5 miles of fresh singletrack are said to be family-friendly.
Englishman River Falls Provincial Park (Errington, British Columbia): Following six years of planning and building, new bike trails were added to Englishman River Falls Provincial Park, featuring beginner-rated tread. The Big and Little Dipper loops are connected via another trail called the Milky Way.
Belle Creek Branch (Northville, Michigan): A 4-mile, beginner-friendly trail known as Belle Creek Branch opened at Seven Mile Park this month, with another loop planned to open later this year.
Cranmore Bike Park (North Conway, New Hampshire): North Conway just added another reason for mountain bikers to visit: Cranmore Bike Park. In its inaugural season, the park boasts machine-built, lift-served trails plus a skills park at the base of the mountain.
Pullman trail (Hot Springs, Arkansas): The Pullman trail is notable for being the only bike-legal singletrack trail in Hot Springs National Park. The 0.7-mile trail serves as a connector from the town of Hot Springs to the large and largely popular Northwoods Trail System.
Hawks Ridge (Chaska, Minnesota): A four-mile trail network called Hawks Ridge recently opened in Chaska with a focus on accessibility for local residents. Area mountain bikers are also working on opening another trail in town this fall.
Arklow Forest (Collie, Western Australia): Arklow Forest, which offers adaptive riding trails and opened in October 2019, just added another 12km of trails suitable for everyone, including mountain bikers with disabilities.
