Vitus Bikes Sommet VRX Suspension Bike

Built around our new 155mm travel suspension platform, the new Sommet VRX is the ideal bike to take on your next enduro ; hammering technical descents; ascending with finesse; finding your limits long before you reach the limits of the all NEW Sommet! When performance and reliability are top of your list; get onboard the new Vitus Sommet VRX and claim your place on the top of the podium!

155mm Travel V-Link 27.5" Frame & Marzocchi 350 NCR Fork

Our 2015 Sommet frame has been completely re-designed from the ground up! Following a lengthy period of R&D we have taken the best attributes from our award winning Escarpe platform and applied this to the new Sommet platform where we fine tuned the linkage positions and leverage ratios to obtain the desired axle path we required.

The new Vitus platform features a floating horizontal shock mount (FHSM) and actual main pivot location (AMPL) designed to provide the most efficient pedalling and suspension action. This layout requires the shock to interrupt the seat-tube; our solution to this is our two-piece hollow "Clamshell" chainstay yoke which is both light and stiff.

The main pivot location is located in a fixed high and forward position in line with a 32T chain ring position, this gives natural anti squat/bob when pedalling in the most commonly used 1x 32T setup without relying on excessive chain tension and none of the related pedal feedback. Because of the main pivot location the Sommet has 55mm of travel with a rearward axle path helping to keep your momentum.

The chainstay pivot location is placed in-line with the chainstay eliminating any force directed to the shock linkage causing the shock to compress (aka pedal bob) due to chain tension. This pivot location also maximizes active suspension when using the rear brake similar to a floating brake design - but without the added weight.

The leverage rate is designed to have a falling rate to sag point then go mildly progressive; this helps the bike sit comfortably in the sag position whilst also providing a stable platform. The lower shock mount moves forward with the suspension, this helps to keep a linear rate without falling off at full travel. This movement also reduces the shock angle change at full travel reducing side loads and improving shock life and reliability.

Manufactured from 6061-T6 triple butted aluminium and delivering 155mm of fully active suspension travel via the Horst-Link 4-bar design with our horizontal floating shock mount. We have added a removable High Direct FD mount and ISCG-05 tabs to facilitate any drivetrain combination. The rear axle is the now industry standard 142mm x 12mm E-Thru platform.

The frame is also Reverb Stealth ready thanks to the internal cable routing. A bolt on down tube protector adds impact resistance to the down tube and cables from rock strikes.

Rear wheel travel is controlled via the RockShox Monarch Plus DebonAir custom tuned shock which features external rebound and three position compression damping adjustment.

Marzocchi 350 NCR forks offer 160mm of air sprung travel and features 35mm aluminium stanchions that have a low friction espresso coating. Compression damping is controlled via the DBC cartridge whilst the CR cartridge takes care of rebound and low speed compression adjustments. A tapered aluminium steerer and 15mm QR through axle enhance front end stiffness which results in improved tracking and steering precision.

SRAM X1 Groupset & Shimano SLX Brakes

SRAM have paved the way in MTB gearing over the last few years with their ubiquitous 1 x systems; the X1 shifter and derailleur combination provide superior shifting performance; ultra light weight and supreme reliability with the new X-SYNC tooth profile for maximum chain control which eliminates the need for a chain guide. The X1 carbon cranks sits at the heart of the transmission with a wide gear range via the 32t X-SYNC chainring and 11t - 42t 11-speed cassette. Shimano SLX hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors front and rear provide excellent all weather stopping power with superb lever feel and modulation.

Wheelset & Finishing Kit

WTB Frequency Team i23 TCS 27.5" rims offer durability with low rotational weight and are tubeless ready for those wanting to save even more weight by running a full tubeless set up; these are laced on to Formula disc brake hubs to create a lightweight, dependable race ready wheelset. WTB Vigilante race front and Trail Boss race rear TCS tyres feature DNA dual compound rubber for improved cornering grip and lower rolling resistance which translates into a faster tyre for less effort! These are also tubeless ready and offer predictable handling and low rolling resistance which translates into more speed for less effort! No enduro bike would be complete without a dropper seatpost and on the VRX model we have fitted the benchmark RockShox Reverb Stealth which provides a 125mm drop. The cockpit components comprise of a Funn Strippa stem and Vitus riser bars for maximum control.
