Late adopters, your patience has paid off once again. Much of the design and tech from the groundbreaking Roval Control SL wheels, announced last spring, is now available in a more affordable version of the wheel set named simply Control Carbon.
The XC-oriented wheels continue to place a premium on low weight, with the pair of 29er wheels tipping the scales at just 1,450g. That’s about 200g heavier than the Control SLs released last year — and half the price, at $1,350.
The Control Carbon wheels feature a 4mm flat-top bead hook to minimize pinch flats, and naturally the rims are taped for tubeless. At 29mm wide internally, the rims should play nicely with a wide range of tire widths.
Roval uses the new DT Swiss 350 hubs with 36 points of engagement, which works out to 10° between clicks. The wheels will only be offered with 6-bolt hubs, so those running center lock brake rotors will need an adapter. An XD driver version looks to be available, and as of press time we have not heard whether other driver body options will be offered. The spokes are straight pull with 28 spokes on both the front and rear, and appear to be laced in a three-cross pattern.
The Roval Control Carbon wheels come with a lifetime warranty and no-fault crash replacement. A Roval rep says the wheels should be available immediately.
