Most steel frame lovers know of the Murmur Enduro from Starling Cycles. The 140mm 29er is balanced with a 160mm fork, and it’s one of the few single-pivot designs that can be paired with a coil or air shock to suit the rider’s trails and style.
There’s a peculiar desire for some steel frame buyers to keep the tubes and welds visible, and with this latest stainless offering, they can have exactly that. These stainless front triangles with heat-treated Chromoly rear triangles will be limited to a run of 15, retailing for £2,330. If you love this bike, but can’t scrape together the cash for stainless, the classic steel version with Reynolds 853 tubing retails for £1,880.
Like most steel single pivot bikes, the Murmur Enduro keeps its bottle mount under the top tube and its cable routing and BB cups external. Max tire width on this bike is 2.6″ with spare space for mud.
The stainless Murmur Enduro uses a 64.6° head tube and 74.6° seat tube angle for proper up and down hill performance. Reach across the two sizes stretches between 485mm and 515mm, whereas the reach across the standard Murmur Enduro, which is offered in more sizes, ranges from 450mm to a staggeringly long 545mm. Starling plans to add sizes to the next run of stainless bikes if the demand is there.
