Transition Repeater 160mm e-Bike
Transition has finally leaped into the e-bike game with a 160mm balanced 29er they named Repeater, after a spicy local trail network. This burly carbon-framed ripper gets all of the SBG geometry features we expect from a Transition model, adding the assistance of a Shimano EP8 motor and 630Wh battery. Builds range in price from $8,100 to $10,999, so there’s arguably no “budget” ride in the range. Click over to the Transition page for more info on the Repeater.
- Starting at $8,100
- Available at Transition Dealers
Handup Black Jorts and New Spring Gear
Handup just put a ton of new spring gear on their website, including these long-awaited black jorts. Sure, you can cut off your own jeans, but what if you cut them too short? Ha! Impossible. Handup jorts are short, 8-inch inseam, and best of all, they are s-t-r-e-t-c-h-y! Get yourself some jerseys and gloves in new, fresh (tiger) prints.
- Price: $54
- Available at Handup
New Specialized Ambush 2 helmet
The Specialized Ambush 2 features MIPS rotational impact protection, eyewear storage, and a system for adjusting where the helmet sits on your brow for maximum vision on the trail. Specialized says size medium lids weigh 360g and the helmet earned a 5-star Virginia Tech helmet test rating.
- Price: $180
- Available from Specialized.
Stio Whiparound Shorts
Another pair of short shorts? You bet! The Stio Whiparound shorts were spotted by our 5′ tall co-founder who can’t even be bothered to ask if these will fit over kneepads. Don’t get her wrong, the technical fabric is still key to staying cool and the 7″ inseam on the women’s cut sounds gloriously freeing once those summer temps come around. Over on the men’s side, these shorts are offered in a more modest 10.5″ inseam.
- Price: $129
- Available at Stio
4iiii Power Meter
Power meters are not the cheapest training tools, and with prices starting around $300 the new 4iiii Precision 3 power meter is relatively affordable. The brand says the Precision 3 can be configured for most Shimano cranks including XT and XTR.
- Price: Starting at $300.
- Available at 4iiii.
Good to Go dehydrated meals
Jeff recently carried this dehydrated granola breakfast bowl from Good To-Go on his Florida bikepacking trip, and the brand offers a number of “real food” meals to satisfy most diets. The Granola breakfast pictured here is particularly weight-friendly since it doesn’t even require hot water to hydrate, letting you leave the stove at home.
- Price: Starting at $10
- Available at Amazon.
Evoc Gear Bag
Gas prices are at an all time high and we know you want to be responsible earthlings and carpool to the trail. This 35L Evoc gear bag (shown above) has plenty of room for a day or two’s worth of gear — helmet, shoes, pads, and change of clothes. In fact, it’s large enough for other sports, too with plenty of room for snow boots, soccer balls, or your pickleball paddles. Plus, there’s a separate section for your muddy, sweaty, and stinky stuff.
- Price: $75
- Available at evoc
JoJé Bars
We were recently introduced to JoJé Bars, an energy and nutrition bar company founded by Jess Cerra, a former professional cyclist and chef. Unique flavors like Lemon Blueberry Quinoa (fruity and rich!) and Pancakes and Bacon stand out from the crowd and promise the break the monotony of fueling during the ride.
- Price: $35.88/12-pack
- Available at Amazon
Bike… to the golf course?
It’s been said that mountain biking is the new golf, so it was only a matter of time before someone combined the two. Well, not exactly. The Back9 from Side Street is a backpack-based golf bag for transporting clubs to the course. Unfortunately few, if any, golf courses allow bikes on their cart paths even though mountain biking hole-to-hole would be a win for the environment and for fitness.
- Price: $160 early bird price
- Available at Kickstarter.
