Ever wonder what happened to your favorite mountain bike brands from the 1990s? Thanks to the internet you don’t have to wonder any more – a trip down memory lane is just a click away!
My first mountain bike was a used Bridgestone MB-5 that I bought from a bike shop called Chain Reaction (clever name, huh?). The Bridgestone was a hard tail AND a hard nose but it was surprisingly light weight for a bike of that vintage. I found an entire webpage devoted to preserving the Bridgestone heritage over at Sheldon Brown’s and it really brought back memories. In case you’re wondering my old MB-5 is doing just fine – retired and enjoying its golden years as a beach cruiser on Hilton Head Island.
I also remember my buddy’s dad had a Fuji back in the 80s but it turns out Fuji mountain bikes are still around if you look hard enough. All my friends rode Giants, Treks, GTs, and Specialized bikes in the early 1990s but obviously those companies are still alive as well. What other mountain bike brands would you like to see raised from the dead?
