No snow means Les Gets lifts are spinning for mountain biking this winter

The lifts at Les Gets are usually full of skiers this time of year but a lack of snow means mountain bikers are hitting the slopes instead. Morzine Source Magazine says “the Mont Chéry lift is also currently open for mountain hikers and bikers” though the resort is hopeful the snow will (eventually) arrive this winter.

New flow trail coming to Colorado Springs

The Medicine Wheel Trail Advocates, a group based in Colorado Springs, Colorado is working on a new trail in the northern portion of the town. So far, the group has designed the trail around an undeveloped piece of land next to a new home development. The trail is intended to be an intermediate flow trail with berms and jumps., according to the Colorado Springs Gazette. No opening date was mentioned.

Smoky Mountains NP bike trail plan clears hurdle

A plan to build 11.8 miles of mountain bike trails on the west side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park recently cleared an important environmental analysis hurdle. Park managers released a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) and the next step is to identify how the project might be funded.

New trails under construction at Tannery Knobs in Tn

Butter Gap Trail in Pisgah to be improved, open to MTB year round

The Transylvania County (North Carolina) Tourism Development Authority has pledged $45,000 to maintain and realign the Butter Gap trail in Pisgah. Once complete, mountain bikers will have year-round access to the area. The project is projected to cost $275,000 – $325,000 and is being supported by Pisgah SORBA, the USFS, the state Recreational Trails Program, Fox Factory Trail Trust, and Athletic Brewing in addition to the Transylvania County Tourism Development Authority.
