Steamboat Bike Park will finally reopen this season
Colorado’s Steamboat Bike Park will finally reopen this season after being closed since 2018 due to construction. According to the Steamboat Pilot, the park will have more than 50 miles of trail when it’s fully operational again, though details are still being finalized.
University of Southern Indiana building 3 DH trails
The University of Southern Indiana has contracted with Trelcru Inc. to build a mountain bike park featuring three downhill runs that’s designed for riders of all abilities. The project is being funded in part by a $25K grant from the CenterPoint Energy Foundation. A second phase could add another 2.5 miles of campus trails in the future.
Comment period open for Mt. Ashwabay logging plans
Mountain bikers in northern Wisconsin have a chance to weigh in on logging plans for Mt. Ashwabay, home to a popular section of the CAMBA trail network. A summary of the plans, along with potential concerns and instructions for submitting comments, can be found here.
Plan for Freeport, Maine MTB trails on hold
The Freeport, Maine Town Council voted down a new management plan on Hedgehog Mountain that would have lifted a ban on bicycles on the mountain’s summit, according to the Times Record. The New England Mountain Biking Association had been working for years to lift the ban. Citizens of the town have been debating whether mountain bike trails would help boost the economy or negatively impact other users’ experience. Unfortunately for MTB advocates in the area, the council voted the bike trail proposal down 4-2.
