Yesterday Loaded Precision announced the availability of their AmX 35 line of bars and stems. With riders moving to more aggressive bikes and wider bars, 35mm bars and stems are gaining more traction in the market, as this announcement clearly shows. Currently, most bars and stems on the market are 31.8mm, so the 35mm standard allows manufacturers to increase bar strength and rigidity.
Within Loaded Precision’s new line, the AmX 35 Carbon handlebars are noteworthy for being 840mm wide (!) and weighing just 216g. The handlebars will retail for $169.99 and are offered in flat and riser versions. There’s also a new AmX 35 aluminum bar ($89.99 MSRP), though we can’t confirm the length on these bars. My guess is they are also 840mm wide.
Both new bars feature a 35mm clamping area, so the AmX 35 Trail stem is designed with that in mind. Loaded Precision designed the faceplate to be wider than those found on typical stems to accommodate the additional stress produced by 800mm+ bars. All told, the AmX 35 Trail stem weighs 169g and retails for $79.99. There’s also a direct mount version for $89.99.
Your turn: Have you made the switch to 35mm bars and stems? If not, do you plan to?
