The OneUp Wave mountain bike pedal is convex AND concave

Mountain bikers are split between concave, convex, and neutral flat pedals. The all-new OneUp Wave doesn't choose sides.

In a survey of flat pedal riders last year, 62% of readers said they prefer pedals with a concave shape, 25% prefer neutral (flat), and 13% prefer convex. Clearly, mountain bikers are divided, and there’s no “right” choice when it comes to pedal shape. That is, unless there’s a middle ground — which is exactly the line the all-new OneUp Wave pedal hopes to ride.

Riding the wave

According to a press release, the OneUp Wave has been in development since 2022. “Wave is a patented hybrid convex/concave shape that promotes an aggressive heels-dropped riding position and gives you a more natural pedal stroke when seated.”

The front / leading side of the Wave is concave, while the back is convex. This is said to encourage a heel-down posture for descents while providing support and grip at the forefoot.

In addition to the wave-like convex/concave pedal shape, OneUp has angled the pins by up to 10° so that they’re perpendicular to the shoe while riding.

Construction

The OneUp Wave pedal features a CNC’d aluminum platform spinning on a chromoly axle with igus bushings. There are three cartridge bearings per pedal, and the Wave is approved for DH and eMTB use.

The 107x110mm platform is at the medium-large end of the flat pedal size spectrum. There are nine pins per side, with an optional tenth hole. The pins are said to feature a “Hollow-Hex” design for improved mud clearance, and extra pins are included.

A pair of OneUp Wave pedals weighs 355g, and they are available in eight colors for $159.99.
