Does your shop offer mountain bike rentals? As an official Trek retailer, they do rent bikes. A complete listing (along w/ pricing) can be found here: https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/retailrental/
This is the shop that got me on my first real MTB.
Some background: I was bitten by the bug when I went to Dick's Sporting Goods to look at bikes for my child, and I spied a GT Avalanche. I'd missed a sale and the price jumped up to around $800. Wasn't wiling to pay that for that particular bike, so I began to check local bike shops.
After going through several and having bad experiences (one review I'll write later) on a whim I decided to go to this store before I just flat gave up.
That's when I met the best bike shop on the planet . . . in my eyes at least.
Tom welcomed me as soon as I walked in the door. We spoke for quite some time and while he could tell I'd done a great deal of research, he corrected me on a couple of misconceptions I had. All the time I felt welcome and informed. He helped confirm I was in fact looking at the best bike for me, and offered to send me a quote for all three bikes I was considering.
Later, when I informed him via e-mail that my spouse had purchased a bike from the Trek website, he congratulated me and stated he was looking forward to seeing me again.
This kind of service makes me not even consider going to another bike shop . . . regardless of cost. And *that* is the mark of excellent customer service.

Granted, that's just my opinion and experience.
