This ride is a loop at the top of the Lemhi Mtn Range's northern end. Route finding can be challenging so bring a GPS. Ride the loop in either direction, but we like to ride it counter-clockwise to get the big climb and hike-a-bike out of the way for the long wooded downhill.
This loop follows an old forest road at first (Tr 6059) for 3.4 miles then turns left and up onto Tr 6101. This is the start of 1000' of tough climbing, some ridable, some not. Once at the top take in the views of the vast Salmon River country before proceeding south and following a fence line.
The trail here is mostly obvious but stay alert and follow this fence for about 1.5 miles to a large meadow. Leave the fence here and follow the edge of the meadow downhill, here you will pick up an old trail that will turn into a faint old logging road. This will "T" into another logging road deeper in the canyon where you will turn right. Now the ride contours through the woods another 1.5 miles and dumps out on a better forest road (Tr 6102). Go left here and follow this downhill back to the road you began on (Tr 6059) and the cold beer you left at the start.
Sounds complicated...it is...bring a GPS for this one.
