Mountain Biking American Standard

****   Add a review
#53 of 293 mountain bike trails in Pennsylvania
#2,183 in the world

American Standard is a classic technical ride that is long and very rocky, not to mention absolutely beautiful. There are no big climbs but the entire ride combines to make you wish you were at Molly McGuires downing a beer. The setting is in state game lands in the pocono mountains with trees, rocks and mountain laurel. One of the best in eastern PA.

I took a trip to ride the American standard last year. When I got there I was told not to ride it because of bear season, just make sure not to go during any hunting season; I was told that some of the local hunters have taken shots above bikers heads.

This trail is very fun, but very technical and not for beginners. Do not let the description fool you, this trail will wear you out! There are rock gardens everywhere! Also, the name American Standard comes from the random toilet right in the middle of the trail!

Nice singletrack, some rock gardens, not too much climbing, and not too technical overall, but some sections are a little technical. For a GPS track map, see http://zerospin.org/gallery/cycling_maps/20050819_jt_americanstd?full=1

We had hoped to hit this up on our trip (August 2005) but found out it is closed for revegetation due to ice storm damage. We did Broad Mtn. instead, was ok.

A great trail to take a relaxing ride. Not to stressful but still fun with great views as well.

The trail is not really steep in any one place. The rocks take it out of you though. There are many rock gardens which consist of mostly small rocks. Trail is windy, rocky and has a stream crossing (and a urinal).
