#220 of 549 mountain bike trails in North Carolina
This newly opened rails to trails project starts in downtown Durham and leads south to Jordan

Trail starts at the Durham Bulls stadium under the Durham Freeway overpass. Head south from
here.
Only rode the Southernmost 4 or 5 miles. NOT a mountain bike trail...but pretty down there.
Thank |This trail has changed for the better since the last review was posted. It's safer and more enjoyable as can be witnessed by the ever increasing use of this trail by marathoners, horses, light mtb, and recreational. North of 40 it's sunny with lots of street crossings, south of 40 is paved for another 7 miles. South of that is a shady bridle path. This is the best trail to ride in durham if you really want to get somewhere without driving your car. Additionally, you can take 751 a couple miles further south of the trail-end and get to Harris Lake where they have some real mtb trails. Try it!
Thank |This is a nice trail for beginners, well maintained with beautiful scenery, nothing technical, just a nice ride.
Thank |It's 6.5mi end to end on the paved side, so if you do an out and back you have 13mi. Good for sprints and if you ride from the Bike shop on Broad St. you can add another 5mi (approx). Good fix if your limited on time. Better for road bikes. There is an additional 3.5mi on hardpack gravel that picks up on Massey Chapel Rd. (just on the other side of Southpoint Mall).
Thank |I finally rode to the end of the line on my road bike a couple weeks ago and I was disappointed to find that the trail does not yet connect all the way to Jordan lake. The paved portion that starts downtown stops just short of I-40 near Southpointe. From downtown this only gets you a bit over 6 miles each way but you can add the Riddle Road spur trail for another 4-5 miles.
Thank |What can you say, it's a level sand trail. It is ok for just putting some miles on your bike, but with so many people and dogs out and about, it isn't easy to get up any speed. Look out for road apples.
