Rushing water flows over rocks in a serene, wooded area, surrounded by lush green foliage and a tree arching gracefully above the stream. The sunlight filters through the leaves, creating a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. Amicalola Falls mountain bike trail.

Mountain Biking Amicalola Falls

Make sure you get a map of this trail before you attempt it. I had a map and I even got lost, turning this 12 mile ride into a 20 mile nightmare. This trail has a couple of big climbs but correspondingly has a few big downhills. Not too difficult - most ascents are gradual. A good workout - just make sure you know where you're going.

Getting there
"From Dahlonega, take GA 9 to GA 52. Go about 10 miles. Park entrance is on the right. Continue through park following signs for "cabins" up the moutain. Note - this road is very steep. Go past the cabins and get on High Shoals Rd (gravel). Follow this rough road to the fork - take the right fork towards High Shoals Baptist Church. Park at the church and begin by riding down the road.

A limitless amount of trails for running and hiking - some for mountain biking when you get off of the actual Amicalola Falls Park property. We loved it! The staff at the lodge are outstanding!

There are some great rutted out 4x4 roads up top that allow you to touch up your technical riding skills. I haven't had a chance to try to connect the entire loop yet to see if its doable, but when I do I'll be sure to post back.

WARNING --- THIS TRAIL IS NOW CLOSED! The US Forest Service has blocked access to a major portion of the trail, and it has allowed the formerly maintained road to become overgrown with trees. The posted sign says something about allowing the area to return to it's natural state for the benefit of wildlife, etc.

I rode this trail a few times when I was new to mtn biking. I even rode by myself twice. There were some pretty rough, but not fun downhills.
With all the other great rides in Northern Georigia, why do this one?
