Mountain Biking Anderson School/Helix

#17 of 202 mountain bike trails in Tennessee

Heading down Lost Chromosome (part of the Urban wilderness S Loop) you get to signs for Chain Ring. L.C. continues down hill to the Fork of the river area. Chain ring is the perimeter of the Helix area (on private land easement, so be on good behavior or we could loose this) and is made up of single and some double track. Some long climbs, one fairly technical where it meats the E end of AC/DC. Inside the ring are AC/DC and MCR which are grand flowy things with a few berms and fun roller coaster bridges. Also Chicken Coop which is a direct route bypassing most of ac/dc, often down the fall line. It is steep and rooty and often washed out. There's also Creek side loop out side of CR, at a nice gravel stream ford. Creek side is a short loop with a long climb.

Excellent South East trails, some of the best actually! The bridges are a blast, nice long wall to practice on, short technical climbs. By far my favorite place to ride in the South Knoxville area.

Great Trails and continuing to expand. Unmapped trails with some spotty signage but enough to keep from getting lost. Lost Chromosome is technical with a couple of challenging climbs on the way back out. AC/DC is fun and flowy with enough rocks, roots, trees to keep you on your game. MCR is fun, Chicken Coop is challenging, 3 Mary's loop kinda short and boring. Then there's Transformer off of the Creek Loop that brings you down close to Forks of the River trails, good stuff. These trails need at LEAST 3 sunny days after rain to dry out.

Flows nicely. Good amount of root/rock action between hardpack. Needs 3-4 days to dry after a hard rain.

The trails are well marked and easy to find. They have replaced the boards on the roller coasters and berm flows on the AC/DC trail. The whole south Knoxville trail system is great. I wound up heading over to the Dozer trail then before doubling back on Dozer to take on Hedgehog and Squirrel trails. The climbs are challenging and while some of them may be washed out if it has rained recently, they are still very passable.

This system trail is amazing a lot of climbs and downhills, some wood bridges, some rocks lodges and roots. Yesterday was completely wet but I suppose that this trail dry and packed could be the best. Perfect flow. The complete systems it's about 40 miles.

Kinda a grab bag. Mostly easy a couple obstacles. Most of the climbs are just longish, last one (going CCW) is steep rocky technical. Good trail, but the real gems are inside the loop.

Very nice trail, with miles of flow. Could do eather direction but flows well if you start out CCW on Chain Ring and drop in at the berm. Love the bridges. Hi consequence but nice and wide. When you get to MCR you may choose to take that back to the Ring, more fun, or finish ac/dc, lots of fun.

Sweet Area, connects from South loop. Chain ring veries from flat fire rd, to steap rocky thechnical clims. Ac/DC is miles of flow and dumps out naturally into MCR which is more goodness. Fun area.

Easily my favorite trail in the Dirty South Network. Lots of flow, not too easy, twisty, and the bridges are a blast. I pump (track) half the time and pedal the other half.
