A scenic view of a closed road leading into a natural area, surrounded by hills and sparse vegetation under a clear blue sky. A wooden gate blocks the road, with a backdrop of distant mountains partially covered in trees. The landscape features patches of brown earth and tufts of grass. #592 of 1,004 mountain bike trails in California
#7,868 in the world

Fourteen miles of singletrack! plus a few miles of other. From trailhead, ride west on single track 1.25 miles. After crossing paved road, another 50 yards and turn right onto California Riding & Hiking Trail. Follow single track 3 1/2 miles to tee with Soapstone Grade Fire Rd, turn right. Take Soapstone about 2 miles (keep right at the fork after about 1mile) to small paved road. This road runs around a grassland frequented by deer and wild turkeys. At the intersection with Hwy 79, look on the left for the singletrack a short distance south of the corner. Take this singletrack south about a mile to Paso Picacho Campground. Return on the singletrack. But instead on taking the small paved road through the grassland, keep right on the singletrack; it leads 1.6 miles through pine forest to the other end of the small paved road. Cross the road and complete the ride on the fire road and singletrack the way you came
