Mountain Biking Athens YMCA

#196 of 403 mountain bike trails in Georgia
#5,485 in the world

Large network of trails varying from steep and twisty to borad and flat. Couple of bridges. Trees
fallen across trail depending on level of current maintenance. So many different routes, I can't go
into depth about them here.

As noted by the previous reviewer, to get to the trail through YMCA, one has to be a member. However, there are other ways in. One "entrance" is at the back of the parking lot of one of the buildings in the adjacent Hawthorne business park (approx. coordinates: 33.968952,-83.418568). It's not an official entrance but it gets you onto the trail within a few feet.

Another entry is through the field behind Oglethorpe Elementary (33.965255,-83.424781).

(Since I don't know if the Y actually owns the trails/forest, I don't know if this is considered fully legal or not, your call).

I've only tried one small loop so far (maybe 10-15min at a not very fast pace) I enjoyed it and given that I live only minutes away from that trail, I'll likely use it frequently. For a trail inside the city, I think it's pretty decent.

Please note you have to be a YMCA member. We were in Athens for the weekend, decided to try out a couple of trails we found on here...very dissapointed that we couldnt try it, expecially after spending a while following directions to try to find it.

Nice and easy trail. Pretty smooth the whole way except for a small section of rocks which still isnt too bad.

really, not worth the effort unless you live really close to the Y. there are so many other better quality trails in athens, there really would be very little reason to come here. i may possibly go back just to kick around a little bit more, but only once more.
