Mountain Biking Baker Creek (Trail #1301)

****   Add a review
#864 of 1,395 mountain bike trails in Colorado
#9,652 in the world

This singletrack is linked up either through Dodgeton Creek Trail or Indian Creek Trail. If coming from Indian Creek Trail, it makes for 3.1 miles of fun rowdy downhill, except for a three quarters of a mile stretch of up and down in the middle. If doing the 13.5 mile Dodgeton Creek-Indian Creek-Baker Creek loop (clockwise), this trail becomes the core of a 6 mile mostly downhill run back to the trailhead to finish the ride. The trail weaves through beautiful mixed conifer forest and has nice views of the Spanish Peaks.

As a downhill run, Baker Creek didn't deliver as well as I had hoped. It's has a lot of potential, but it is very narrow with a lot of tall weeds creeping over the trail. So with all the rock on the upper half and the steepness, you have to constantly hold back a bit due to the weeds. If you missed a line and ended up in the weeds, the consequences could be quite high to the body. It was still fun, but some trail maintenance could make a huge difference. The bottom half was more open, but a bit up and down and seemingly lost its downhill flavor.
