Very nice trail. Well maintained and marked. Please obey the speed limit signs this is a national park with Rangers on patrol. Friendly staff at the trail head for information if need (it was 4th of July weekend). The trail that leads to the mountain bike trail is purposed for hikers, bikers, and horses. This trail is about 1 mile to the hiking/biking loops. The North Loop is really nice and very easy. It flows well and can be done by anyone in the family. A lot of speed can be carried on this loop so please be looking for hikers. There is a 1 mile connector that takes you to the South Loop. The South Loop is a little more difficult with some rock garden areas and a little rougher terrain. I was able to ride both loops and both connectors (about 12 miles) in about 62 minutes. This is a must if you are in the area.

Its hard to beat an eight mile loop through beautiful mature hardwoods (with little undergrowth) high on a ridgeline above Green River isn't it? Great parking facilities and restrooms. You begin at the Maple Springs Campground far lot... take a 1 mile or so spur to the trailhead (after you cross Stockholm road (the one you came in on) then the fun starts. Take all left or right hand turns and you'll run the north and south loop CW or CCW. Once you get towards the end of the south loop your in beautiful mature forest with little undergrowth. If weather allows and trail conditions allow, winter riding here is wonderful. The trail itself has just the right amount of incline/decline with some short punchy descents. Lots of alternate lines with technical features branch off for more advanced riders. I especially like the return on the north loop if you are going CCW... a big section of rollers and you can get 3 or 4 quick jumps in. If you're reading this in Fall 2019 make note the ferry will be closed till 1st quarter 2020. Plan accordingly because it makes it much longer to reach the trailhead.

Are you sure you were on Big Hollow trail? Sounds like you might have gotten on some of the other trails on the north side of MCNP that are available to horse riders?

Good beginner trails that can be covered in a few hours. Good flow, nothing very technical that I recall. Trails are kept up well and I didn't see any litter!

Good intermediate trail. North loop is less advanced with more flow. South loop more technical with a few small rock gardens. Rolling hill terrain with minor climbs.

Wide, fast and flowy. Not much elevation change. It's kinda like a really long pump-track. Nothing real technical

This is my second review. It had been a couple years since I rode here last. The trails are in great shape. There is evidence of recent trail work. This is a fast and flowy trail. There are no significant climbs, yet somehow there are plenty of downhill runs. If I lived closer I would go more often. ** NOTE: Depending on which direction you are driving to the trail, you should call ahead to see if the ferry boat is in operation. It is a 45 minute reroute if the ferry is not operating.

Really fun, fast trail. A little more technical on the south loop, which is fun.

My favorite trail. I take my 10 year old riding on this trail. We love that there are obstacles (South Loop is our fav) an the trail is smooth and fast. Like another rider commented, you can make this trail as easy or difficult as you want. There are bridges, rock formations, hills an it's beautiful there. We make all right turns and the trail seems to run faster.

I'm not suggesting that anyone blow through an unfamiliar trail at top speed BUT... it can be done here. Super smooth and fast trail with plenty of comfortable spots to let your wheels leave the ground. Few sharp turns allow for good visibility down the path and easy acceleration.

For me it is great to see mountain biking in the national parks. Taking the ferry across the river was fun, the ranger was joking with me while we went across, nice guy! The trail was fairly easy, but you can make it as hard as you want, there are side trails to bump up the difficulty. It was either 11 miles or 12. I rode it two days while I was camping there. Interestingly, I took the shortcuts the first day and ended up with 12 miles and rode the loops as intended the next day and it was 11 miles. Go figure. Anyway, I had a blast!

Great for every one. Has scenery then for the advanced there are log crossings, rock gardens and lots of creek crossings.

The Big Hollow Trail won IMBA's Gateway Trail of the year 2014. A Gateway Trail is a Beginner Friendly trail yet is fun for Intermediates and can even entertain Advanced riders. The North Loop is Beginner. The South Loop is Intermediate with several Alternate Advanced lines that allow you to get technical and air. Several Flow lines will give you some good high speed rhythm if you open it up. There are a couple of log rides present as well and some cool 2 ft, 3ft and 4 ft drops. Another cool aspect is the chunky Brier Creek Trail at Nolin Lake State Park is only a 15 min drive. Do both trails back to back for 20 mile ride.

Trail is wide and well maintained. With two loops and one shortcut at Big Hallow (North & South) you can make the ride less than 5 miles or closer to 10 miles.

Good trail for riding with the kids. We were there yesterday and rode the gravel connector and a portion of the Big Hollow North Loop prior to having to turn around and go back so that we could make it to our cave tour on time. Even this early in the season it was obvious that the trail has been well cared for. Debris was cleared from the trail and it was pretty dry (a little bit of stickiness) on the section of trail that we had time to ride.

Park at the Maple Springs Parking Lot. There is a gravel connector trail that adds over a mile to your ride. Follow signs to the Big Hollow Trail. The trail is a stacked loop. If you either take all rights or all lefts you cannot get lost. It's a great beginner trail and can be a lot of fun once you know alternative lines and features well. Please do not ride when wet or muddy.

All single track but quite wide and very smooth. Ride the whole ten ish miles and you will get a work out, it just wont be very technically challenging. The south loop features a couple more interesting sections compaired to the north, reccomend counter clockwise. Living in bowling, I consider it worth the drive. Best feature aside from the nice scenery is that it is in the national park and theres plenty other stuff to do besides biking, plenty of camping and hiking around.
