Big Sky Resort is the real deal. It has condos, bars, cafes, restaurants, hotels, gorgeous alpine scenery, a golf course, zip lines, climbing wall, vibrant apres-ski and apres-bike scene, great wifi that even reaches the lower trails, the second largest ski field in the USA, and... oh yes - the best downhill mountain bike trails in the USA, not to mention great cross-country trails...
Three ski lifts service the downhill trails with a combined altitude gain of 3400 feet. There are two easy downhill (down-slope!) trails, five intermediate, three advanced and a whole den of extreme trails - the best collection of intensely technical Downhill trails on the planet. Two of the intermediate trails are flow trails, as is one advanced trail - all are masterpieces of their type. One extraordinary trail - Soul Hole - starts out as a steep advanced, rocky, rooty, natural-style, technical downhill trail and then morphs into a sublime, machine-made flow trail. Even within the two parts, the variety will keep your mind focused and your soul enthralled.
The prime cross-country trail is the superb "Mountain to Meadow" shuttle serviced down-slope trail. The other cross-country trails traverse the meadows and foot-hills of Lone Peak, 11,166 feet, and Mount Andesite, 8,800 feet. A fine example is the Beehive Basin Trail.
The information center and the bike shop have a good map of all the trails and the bike shop can rent you a bike and safety gear.
