A winding dirt path through a forest of tall, thin trees with sparse green foliage and patches of wildflowers. The sky is partly cloudy, and the scene evokes a peaceful, natural setting. Black Forest Section 16 Trail mountain bike trail.

Mountain Biking Black Forest Section 16 Trail

Nice gentle four-mile loop through the trees, good shade and incredible scenery. No huge climbs or descents, but rolls nicely: clockwise is more gradual climb to top elevation. Trail is roomy, but does narrow in spots. Plenty of horses & runners & dogs, so be prepared to yield.

Mostly double-wide and wider (like a dirt rode). Nothing interesting. I won't be back.

First time being on a bike on one of these trails. This is listed as a beginner trail so I decided to check it out. It does have some rougher spots on this trail with sand and washout erosion. There a a few hills to be prepared for, but the trail is in decent condition overall. There are quite a few people walking/hiking, taking dogs for a walk, and a few other bicyclists there. Evidence of horses on the trail remained in some cases, but I didn't see any horses today. Overall if you are looking for a place to start out on a bike this is a fairly safe bet, plenty of shade and doable for most people I would think. I am old and out of shape so I was concerned, but it turned out I was able to muddle my way through. I will certainly be going back to continue to work on my fitness levels and enjoy the nice location.

Wanted to bring up the address on single tracks is not for the main trail head and will have you parking on the side of the road in a not so great location. If you want to go to the main trailhead with a real parking area here is the correct address:
8510 Burgess Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80908

An excellent trail to ride with kids or someone who's never been on a mtn bike. Or if you live in the area and can get in a lap or 2 as part of a quick neighborhood ride. This is not a destination.
The surface of the trail was mostly tacky and well-maintained, a bit sandy in sections.
Several entry/exit options for folks riding in from different directions.
Well signed, with some interpretive displays as well.

This is a great beginner trial. With a decent climb on the east side, the rest becomes a great down hill with a few hills in it. The only real challenge to this trial is all the sand, which can still your momentum making some of the hills a little harder. All in all this is a great trial to go to after work.

Very sandy. This is not one of my favorite places to ride, but I had never been there and thought I would check it out. If you start out heading West, it's a long slow uphill grind to the North East corner of the square loop. Then it's a pretty fun downhill ride save for the sandy spots on turns that kill your groove. I'd say that more than half of this trail is loose sand which makes the uphill grind that much painful. The downhill payoff is nice, but I'm not so sure it is worth the effort for such a short ride. Good chance of encountering horses and joggers as well.

Oh and the loop is actually just under 4 or more miles (3.885 taken from the same point in the parking lot) per GPS. I'm not sure where everyone is getting 4 miles. If you don't count the parking lot, it's even shorter.

Not much more to say than what has already been said. I think it is a great trail for kids just beginning to mountain bike or for adults trying to get back into MTB. If you do a couple loops (4.3 miles/loop) it can be a pretty good workout.

I just took my new Specialized 29er SJ Comp on this trail and I needed more after 4 miles. This is a good trail to bring your little ones to, which I plan to do. It provides a few down hills which can be a challenge for beginners and kids. I will give it a 3 because it is a little short. This is a trail I will be coming back to for speed training and exercise.

This was my first official trail (I've ridden country roads) and it was really fun! I was pulling a bike trailer with my 4 year old daughter in it and it was challenging and a great workout! We rode it in just under an hour.

Great trail for beginners, Great after-work trail. I took my kids (7 & 11) here for there intro to mountain biking ride. They were thrilled. Rolling Hills, You feel like you're deep in the forest, though you are really never more than 100' from the road. No technical challenges to speak of, but a good one to get you into riding shape for more challenging trails. Definitely NOT a white knuckes, bugs in teeth type of ride, but a good relaxing family cruise. Way better than Black Forrest Regional Park, but you'll find more interesting/challenging trails in the area.

New maintenance has filled in many of the drainage areas, which will make it less muddy when wet and less rutty when dry.
The only thing more beginner would be a fire trail.

Like the other Black Forest rides, there's not much to reccomend this loop. In addition to lacking any fun MTB features (hills, tech), this one is very busy with other trail users. I gave it the second star because there are a couple fast, flowy sections--if you hit them between crowds. If you must go try to go on a weekday.

This is very much like Fox Run, although not as much of a climb on the hills. Pretty and rolling in the woods of Black Forest. There were quite a few horses and dogs on the trail, had to get off the bike quite a few times, but folks seemed real nice here and friendly towards those of us on wheels.
