Mountain Biking Bovine
#61 of 319 mountain bike trails in Idaho
Bovine trail is part of a larger system. You can use it to access more trails or
make it your end destination from other trailheads. It is a steep climb but
returns the favor with a fast downhill. Usually one of the first trails to open in
the spring and last to close in the fall.

At the stoplight in Driggs head west. When the road curves south continue
straight. The main road will curve north and then west again heading into
Horseshoe Canyon. After you cross the forest service boundary (second
cattle guard) go another mile. There will be a jeep road on the right. Take
the turn and go about 100 yards there will be a parking lot on your left.
Signed trail head is across from parking area.
Bovine is a really nice down-sloping ride - curvy and narrow - it keeps you focused as you flow on down. It terminates at the Bovine Trailhead on Old Horseshoe Road. I thought it deserved an advanced rating because it's narrow but intermediate rides wouldn't find it threatening if they take their time...
A lot of people ride it up rather than down. I imagine it would leave you sweating that way...
Thank |Good trail with some flow and banked corners.
Thank |View of the Mountains is spectacular. Fast downhill if you do an out and back for a quick ride. At the intersection there are so many other trails, wish I had the time.
Thank |This is a great trail as a climb or DH. Fast, flowy, smooth, non-technical. I like that it is connected to Channel Lock by a doubletrack to make it a quick up/down without having to commit to the larger network if you're running short on time, but still want a quick thrash.
Thank |My preferred exit from the Horseshoe trail network. Fast, flowy and fun!
Thank |Bovine is a strenuous climb into the horseshoe canyon trails. Trail isn't that long but has some steep climbs in it. Prepare for some rest brakes. It makes an awesome downhill though.
