Mountain Biking Brewer Park

*****   Add a review
#5 of 138 mountain bike trails in Minnesota
#240 in the world

From the parking lot, head up the hill to the dirt road. Instead of turning right onto the Piedmont Trails, follow the dirt road under the highway to the Brewer Park Trail on the other side. There is basically one loop with a fork for a partial alternate route. The trail consists of hardpack with occasional berms and optional stunt opportunities, all punctuated with the granite slabs characteristic of the area.

what a lovely climb. the views of the Duluth harbor are amazing. They would be even better with less foliage. Lots of technical features, and you can jump on and off the Traverse sections

Rocky terrain with great turns and occasional boulders of granite. Rewarding descent AND inclines. Wonderful views throughout.

This is the trail you're looking for. It connects to Piedmont as the new flow trail there ends at the Brewer Parking lot. Take the sidewalk north for like 150ft, go under, go up and look for the start of Lollygagger on the right when you start climbing up. Stay on Lollygagger for a nice gentle climb (it's 2 way so eye up some sweet corners for the return trip.) Once you're on top, you can either ride the trail called Homebrew in either direction, both are awesome, so do it both ways as Homebrew might be one of the best trails I've ridden!!! Flowy with some techy thrown in. Optional lines for more fun. Lots of challenges and tons of huge rocks and patches of slickrock but fun for anyone from the beginner to the pro. And oh those views! Didn't try the trail "kissing booth" this time as we were parked back at Piedmont and tried the new Skyline flow trail twice instead but I've heard it's a great time!

I had a blast on these trails. They are the new school type of trail with lots of flow but that also means they are little wider than the old school trails in the area like Piedmont across the street. You can definitely ride fast and feel like you're not climbing at all since you can carry your momentum. I really like the yin-yang aspect of Brewer and Piedmont. My wife can do a couple laps at Brewer and feel accomplished and I can ride Piedmont when I feel like I need a little more challenge. Also, being from Utah the trails in the whole Duluth area were very refreshing. No gut-busting climbs and plenty of trees to keep the sun out of your eyes and off your back. Can't wait to ride these trails again!

I don't give out 5 stars easily, and certainly not east of the Rockies, but this trail is an absolute hoot! The trail has great flow ridden in either direction and there are stunt opportunities to suit all levels of rider with drops from 4" to 4' built into the flow. But what makes this trail so great, beyond seeming like you get more down than up for your pedaling effort, is the pieces of slickrock scattered throughout, some smooth, some jumbled, some rollers, some drops, etc. The trail builders did an outstanding job incorporating natural features into this trail along with the man made berms and huckortunities.
