Mountain Biking Brunswick Nature Park
#46 of 549 mountain bike trails in North Carolina
The first trail system designed and built by the Cape Fear chapter of SORBA. Surprisingly natural varied terrain for being only about 2mi from the Cape
Fear river. Has some nice views of the wet lands that are near the trail.
Also it is only a short drive from downtown Wilmington and Blue Clay
Mountain Bike Park. The trail is only open during park hours which is from
dusk to dawn and there is a gate at the entrance so there is no night riding
here. Not to far from the trail head is bathrooms and a shelter with a huge charcoal grill. Our intentions are to make this the best trail system in
coastal carolina, as such it will be under constant change. Initial
construction on the trail began early Dec 2010.

From 17/74 in Leland turn south onto River Rd ( HWY 133 South) towards Oak
Island, about 7mi on your right you will see a large concrete sign for the park.
A surprisingly challenging ride with plenty of roots. The view out onto the power lines on ‘flytrap’ is both beautiful and kind of haunting.
Thank |I live north about 1.5 hrs. The trails up here are very rooty but fun. At the preserve it was a different situation. I had the time of my life. I would drive that far weekly to ride and have no issues. I appreciated the hard work people put into the trails.
Thank |Awesome place. Easy to expert trails. Everyone friendly. Trails well maintained. Rock garden, skinny, jumps and boardwalks were great.
Thank |Great trail system, can be a bit confusing without a map. Trails were in excellent condition with workers actively maintaining them. Obstacles were very doable and in great condition. All obstacles also have a bailout. Most of the trails are one way only which makes it nice not to have to worry about a collision with another rider on the fairy tight single track.
Thank |Will come back.
Haven't been on my MTN bike in about 6 weeks...this is a nice warm up trail will nice advanced obstacles. Ready for the weather to get cooler & more riding.
Thank |This is a great little trail. The have crammed a lot of riding into a small space. The trail is a bit rough it spots, but overall has nice flow. We needed to escape from the beach house for the day and this did the trick.I only wish it was twice a long! We rode two laps with two boys under 10 and they did great.
Thank |I rode here while I was on vacation in NC. Nice features. Overall difficulty wasn't very hard. Next time we are out that way we will definitely be back.
Thank |Let me start by saying I am visiting the area and not used to the sand. I was not expecting how loose it would be. I came into the very first turn with some speed and washed out the front wheel and went down hard. The rest of the ride I was more cautious. I feel the sand is definitely the most technical part of the trail. Mostly flat, winds through the pines with a pretty good canopy for shade. Saw plenty of wild life, especially spiders and their webs in my face. Man-made technicals were decent. If it is going to be more than a 30 minute drive for you I would find another trail. I enjoyed the ride though, I think it is a good trail for being in the coastal region. MTB is a great sport and I think it's always good to experience what different regions have to offer.
Thank |Upside: Very fun with little hops, berms and quick turns. One of the best for being coastal.
Downside: Yellow flies and mosquitoes since the ride is basically in the swamps.
Thank |Great place to spend a few hours on a bike - can be as easy or difficult as you want to make it. Nice to have on the east coast.
Thank |I really enjoy this trail. Great starter trail, couple miles of easy green with a great progression into blue and black trails. All objects have a clear signage with the option to go around, so even the black trail isn't impossible. Wish there was more trail to ride though, I can usually finish everything in 1-1.5 hours. Not too crowded compared to Blue Clay. Highly recommended!
Thank |These trails were a blast! Highly recommend for new riders.
Thank |Great Trail with real singletrack near the beach. Very fun trail that I rode 2 different days on a trip to the beach. Trail is sandy but I did not notice a real difference in handling and I did not end up with sand all over my drive train. Advanced features can be skipped and most anyone can ride all 3 loops but it is tight enough to be a challenge in places at high speeds. There is no real climbing but there are more up and down portions that I would have expected. I can't wait to return to this fun trail.
Thank |Mostly flat with some fun short elevation changes.Smooth and fast very fun trail to ride.A few man made rock gardens and wooden jumps.Trail is less than 5 years old and plans are in the works for more trail in the future.
Thank |Perfect trail for beginners as well as something for the intermediate riders! Trail is 5.1 miles with plenty of berms and switchbacks, as well as some challenging obstacles throughout. Would definitely ride again.
Thank |Fairly new trail that has been extremely well built by local volunteers in Cape fear Sorba. It is a great ride and has a few different loops with planned in the future.
Thank |My Fiance and I went to this trail not knowing what to expect. So far this has been my favorite trail to ride. We rode the beginner trail which was extremely easy. Smooth sanded trails with no roots and all flat lands made it a nice warm up trail.
We then headed to the Advanced trail. This can definitely be ridden by riders of any skill level. The trails being sanded with hardly no roots or inclines and the optional structures made it an enjoyable ride.
I will definitely be going back in the near future.
Thank |The trails here are set up so you can neatly advance from beginner to intermediate to advanced riding. It has been a couple years since I had been on my bike, and frankly, riding the beginner course to get warmed up really worked well. Chatted with some local riders - who were BLASTING through the trails - and they said that's what they do.
Looks like the locals are regularly doing work on the trail, and it's coming along great.
Thank |We hit this while at Oak Island for vacation. Very accessible, right off 133. Had a great time on all the trails. Also, met a member of the local org that maintains the trails and he was very friendly. It was a great way to start the day.
Thank |I really enjoyed this trails a lot. Twisty fun singletrack.
