#31 of 403 mountain bike trails in Georgia
2.7 miles in one direction. The namesake for the entire area, this trail is an awesome descent. It has become pretty rutted out and technical in areas, but if you like that sort of thing it can still be a blast to ride! Obviously, I recommend descending it. This is the finish of the IMBA Epic Bull Mountain loop.

"From Atlanta take GA 400 North towards Dahlonega. 400 becomes US 19. Take US 19 to Dahlonega. Take GA 52 West in Dahlonega. Turn right at Grizzle's store (broken sign actually says 'zle's Store") onto Nimblewill Church Rd. Just before Nimblewill Baptist church, turn at the marked "Jake Mountain" trailhead. Primitive camping spots located just down the hill from the main parking lot.
Alternate: Turn right on FS 28 at Nimblewill Baptist. Go 0.4 miles. Turn left onto FS 83. 1.8 miles to trailhead. Several bike parking areas, this trailhead is known as Bull Mountain.

Access to the Bull Mtn parking lot now open to passenger vehicles.
Thank |one of the best descents in GA. There are some narrow sections with exposure that is 60 feet to the bottom.
Thank |Combined with Bare Hare and Bull Mt cutoff, this completes the Bull Mt loop. It will entail a big climb followed by a big downhill and is equally special in either direction. If you want to shorten the full loop Use Whoop Dr Do to cut it.
Thank |I made the decision to take this trail from bottom to top (which is literally 100% uphill), not knowing what I was getting myself into. Then I took Whoop-De-Do back around after reaching the back of the trail system. It did NOT feel like 2.7 miles to me, maybe someone should confirm that. Of course it was all ascent for me so it could have just been slow climbing. If/when I go back I am definitely saving Bull Mtn Trail for the last section to get an epic descent to finish the day.
Thank |I rode the entire complex on the 20th. As previously briefed on some of the other trails in this complex, SORBA has been hard at work. Well done.
Thank |I parked at the Bull Mnt parking lot, and rode FS 83 up to 223C (whoop de doos) TH, passed it on the left, and continued on to 223B Saddle Back ridge. (make sure you have the new three digit/letter maps, available at ForestService website.) There was one creek to cross, but it is not the slick rock slime covered death crossing.
The Saddle back seemed like it was all up hill rocky single track in the middle of nowhere, with black bears waiting to maul you at every corner. (I didn't see any though) At last you get to the 223 Trail. Again this is going in a CCW direction from the parking area. Once starting down trail 223 be prepared for several things. Speed, it can get ridiculous fast. Some parts have creek crossings, and some baby head rocks will try to kill you through out this descent. After what seems like an hour of burning down this hill at mach 2, you come to the junction of whoop de doos, and the new section of 223. TAKE THE RIGHT, on to the new section. Guess what, it keeps on going down after a short climb. This part must have been done by SORBA because it is has their style all over it. After your curving descending singletrack insanity, you will pop out on FS83, about 1/4 mile from bull parking area. I have done this route on the old trail in CW direction, and the CCW direction has longer sustained down hill. This is a must ride in Northern Georgia.* Review edited 9/20/2011
If you like riding over where horse have been, then these are the trails for you. I rode an old dirt road that turned into a freshly graded double track (with crawler tracks) up to the ridge. I could'nt figure out where I was even with a map. Every root is exposed and every low spot is a mud hole from the horses. Don't waste your time. I did find one trail that was marked, but I didn't seem to be on the map. Only a couple of horses had been on it the day before. Gorgeous surroundings, but really soft mud hole sections. I also had to avoid the hunters.
Thank |Technical, but oh-so-sweet!
