Mountain Biking Camp Vits

#125 of 388 mountain bike trails in Wisconsin
#6,000 in the world

No parking at trail. on street on Expo or Custer is close.
2 mile beginner loop with some technical features and more in the works. mostly flat with cutie names to segments, like Lumpy Frog(watch for it). lots of sign posts. At the marked river trail connector, drop down the two track, to try the river loop. open fall of 16, still a work in progress. there's also a repair stand at entrance.

I recently moved to the area and hit this trail today, the 24th of July 2021. There is decent singletrack here if you like wilderness-style trails with a few small technical obstacles. The real challenge came from mossy roots and rocks on the switchbacks and climbs, not the man made obstacles along the trail.

The trail is poorly manicured, and not maintained. That sounds like a bad thing, but I enjoy that kind of riding. Down trees, overgrowth and leaves obscure your view of the trail. I lost the trail several times, but could always find a marker to make my way back.

In WI there is nothing that stacks up to the John Muir/Emma Carlin trails, so if that is a 5, I gave Camp Vits a 3 because the difficulty is lower in both climbing and technique, and there is not many miles of trail. That being said, what is there is fun, fast, and vacant. I had the whole dang trail system to myself, and it was a good ride.

This is a complete waist of time. The last half of this trail is nearly unridable do to the roots and lack of trail maintenance. Do yourself a favor, drive to Maribel Caves and ride single track that it worth the time of loading and unloading your bike.

I love Vits for a quick ride. Nothing epic, but the River connector is substantial. There's a few miles of xc trail to lap with some little features and the one good hill. Grass is getting out of hand near the river.

Rode the whole trail today. Finally rode the hill side and river bottom. Awesome fun! No one has been in there due to all the rain we have been getting this summer. The deer flies kept me motivated to hammer! Lol!! Great place to rip! Parking kinda sucks or I would give it 5.

Vits is small, but no real complaints. very nice log ride and obstacles. like the name sake of the "Lumpy Frog" can rip around loop. Hope they can make more on the hill side, trails are far above river(big hill)
