Mountain Biking Capital View
#14 of 108 mountain bike trails in Kentucky
Capitol View Park is a 150 acre park in Frankfort with softball fields, soccer fields, picnic areas and a basketball court. Surrounding these areas are a great network of trails for the beginner and experienced rider. The trails consist of mostly tight twisty singletrack, a few creek crossings, a fireroad, one downhill section, two whoop-de-do sinkholes and some jumps. The trails are mostly hardpack, with some small rock, gravel and gra**ections. Trail conditions are usually good but rain can make riding slippery for a few days. I-64 to Frankfort Exit 58. South on US 127 to HWY 676 (3rd stoplight) and turn right. Go through 3 stoplights, cross the river and and turn left on Glenns Creek Road. Take your first left into Capital View Park and your first right toward the softball fields. Park by the softball fields and there is a Kiosk with a trail map inside. You can start the trail in quite a few spots. There are a few trailheads off of the parking area and more down past the parking area at the end of the gravel road past the soccer fields.
Trails here continue to improve. Lots of work done to reroute trails, add berms and jumps. I have discovered some new routes in the last two months. This morning as I was leaving saw a new trail up near the Vietnam Memorial. The official description of this system is out of date. There is at least 11 miles of trails here and some of it at minimum is intermediate skill level.
Thank |Good trail system. Constantly clear. Never ran across a trail that was blocked because of a tree or other obstacle. This last winter they just rebuilt all the small bridges and added a few. Many many options. Some root here and there. Don't miss trail across the road from the entrance. Also if you are willing to do the climb there are a few fun trails up on top of the hill above the Vietnam Memorial (it is on other side of highway, trail leads up under road.) The descent back down is fast and a few berms have been added.
Thank |First time here! Beginner/intermediate flowy trails, scenery single tracks for most of the ride. The only downside they're not well mark. Overall good trail system!!
Thank |Great ride here. A little bit of everything for everyone.
Thank |I wouldn't say this is a beginner trail. It has beginner elements but also intermediate. Having not been here before and not knowing how long this place has been around I was expecting smooth (boring) flow trail you find everywhere else these days. Trails were actual trails with trail features like rocky sections, trees, roots, and well placed bridges to help get over extremely large downed tree, making it a fun element instead of just cutting the tree out. There were some short steep climbs too. Really refreshing to ride here. Well done to the trail builders and those maintaining it for keeping it natural.
Thank |Good trail, I rode it after the rain so it was slippery in quite a few spots. Fun trail, easy to get crossed up but they all loop around the park so your never too far away from where you started.
Thank |It's fun and good starter trail for anyone near Frankfort
Thank |All that, and a bag of chips. As easy or as challenging as you want to make it. Great flow. Ride for hours and never run out of fresh obstacles or new experiences. Awesome views of water, flora and wildlife. It must be maintained hourly. It's always perfect. ...and a bag of chips!
Thank |Nice little trail that can be about as technical as you want it to be. Lots of steep rooty climbs, sharp turns, and some reasonable downhill. Several places I wanted to stop and practice a few techniques on the sinkholes and log crossings. Lots of fun, give it a go if you're in the area.
Thank |I really liked this trail. Easy to ride and has a nice flow. Definitely worth driving from Lexington or Louisville. Be prepared to see deer hanging out in the woods. I've ridden this trail at least 10 times and it never gets old. Must go!
Thank |This is the best spot near Lexington 2nd would be Skullbusters. CVP is filled w/ fun things. No insane downhill segments but you'll find a ditch or two that remind me of the big gulp. The place has been vastly improved according to friends so if you're looking for a good ride hit this place up cause it flows & has great views....
Thank |Capital View is a fun and easy XC style singletrack hardpack trail located about 20mins from downtown Lexington Ky. The terrain and scenery varies which keeps it interesting. It is fairly flat for the most part except for one long lungbuster climb that leads up behind the library and gives you a nice view of the downtown Frankfort and the capital building (hence the name). There is a large sinkhole that you can drop in/out of and it gives you a couple seconds of free fall action...really fun!!!
Capital View is a fun trail for all, overall easy flow, nothing spectacular but worthy of a drive from Lex or Louisville. Enjoy!!!
Thank |Short trail about 45 min from my home. Great place for new riders. Trails are wide and not too tech. Lots of twist and turns. No major climbs.
Thank |This would be a fun trail if not for the mud the day I rode. True grade was nice but had some cool terrain features. Very flowy if not so wet.
Thank |In town for business, brought my mnt. bike with me to ride this trail. An easy trail system for the most part, not marked well with trails going every where. I kept taking trails to the right and got 8.5 fun miles in. Great views of the river.
Thank |Lots of fun on my first trip out. Beautiful riding. Really enjoyed seeing the wildlife. I can imagine more speed when it's really dry.
Thank |good spot to ride.. something for all i think..
Thank |This is a good trail for riders in the Lexington/Frankfort area. Nothing very difficult but it is a fun ride. The is a good climb and a few nice downhills. I would recommend this for a afternoon ride.
Thank |Very fun trail. It's short, but you can spend hours riding different sections and loops. Great for beginners and for experienced riders just wanting to go balls to the wall for a couple hours.
