From Bodmin take the A38 towards Liskeard. 400 metres beyond the Carminnow Cross roundabout follow the brown tourist signs left and then left again into Cardinham Woods. http://www.ibikeride.com/england/1792-cardinham-woods-mountain-biking
My regular trail centre set in a beautiful large wooded area of hills, valleys and water. Good car parking and modest charges, season ticket 24/7/365 less than $1 a day. Walking trails, horse riding and a largely separate series of linked single track trails making up the Bodmin 'beast'. The basic beast is blue rated, moderately rough in parts with steep berms and many steep (15% - 20%) ascents and descents. It's about 6 miles and takes between 25 minutes (pro riders) and 40 minutes (me), around an hour for a novice. Mainly hardtail riders but more full sus appearing.
Two extra sections are RED rated, 'Hells Teeth' is rough and rocky with a few very steep berms and moderate jumps. Best on a full sus if you want to push hard, but slide off and you will suffer. 'Dialled in Dave' is the other RED but is really a blue with a gnarly hop up section (or use a bypass). Really fast shallow banked corners, loads of fun and forgiving if you slide off (like me).
Summer bike hire on site, good selection of quality gear, and bikes can be ordered and delivered by truck out of season. Great 'Woods' cafe and toilets/changing area with bike wash. Watch out for dogs near the car park as many owners are pretty stupid, trails nearly always clear. Horses have priority but you don't meet many and they never go on the singletrack.
Excellent red run (Beast of Bodmin) and blue run option as well as green tracks in the valley. The BoB is 8 miles long and is a huge amount of fun. Fantastic switch back climbs as well of one really tough climb named Hells Teeth. (The blue run is exceptionally technical for a blue - most areas would also classify this as a red as well it's just not as tough as the red). Great cafe and there is bike here and nearby. I often ride the red followed by the blue which makes a 16 mile ride and deserving of the cake ????
