A mountain bike resting against a wooden sign that points toward an MTB (mountain bike) trail, surrounded by trees and foliage. The trail is narrow and earthy, with sunlight filtering through the leaves. Chilbongsan mountain bike trail.

Mountain Biking Chilbongsan

****   Add a review
#3 of 18 mountain bike trails in South Korea
#1,927 in the world

ChilBongSan is the Advanced section of the WangBangSan race course. It's
primarily single track, steep climbs and descends, slightly technical - NOT for
beginners... From Stadium take road south to intersection of HWY 364 then
left, follow road for 1/2 mile until you see small MTB sign with two arrows -
large arrow points straight for main course; little arrow points right for
ChilBongSan. Follow road toward DDC Hospital - another steep little road
climb. You will come upon a small parking area with green pylons - go
through the pylons and up the hill - the beginning is concrete, then lose 4x4
trail and transitions into single track. The climb to the trail head is monstrous... this trail follows a mountain ridge line and eventually links
back up to the WangbangSan race course. Awesome fun and a great
challenge! You can also right this trail in reverse.

Very fun MTB Trail. I had an absolute BLAST coming down these sections. It CAN be done on a hardtail if you have a some-what decent technical skill set, otherwise, there's Machasan right down the road.

This trail isn't fun. It's awesome Chilbongsan actually has an MTB course designation. Few trails explicitly allow mountain biking in South Korea. But I think Koreans don't distinguish a difference between mountain biking that's powered by a motor (motocross), and mountain biking that's powered by human quadriceps--because this course seems fit for the former. Mountain biking this trail should be reserved for the advanced double black diamond riders who enjoy steep grades. Riding this trail is like riding the edge of a sawtooth. Straight up then straight down; so it's going to be a hike-a-bike afternoon for anyone that goes out there.

The first hill is a beast! we biked up the first bit then had to walk the rest. This trail is not for beginners.

getting to the place isn't hard because they have a MTB sign on the side of the road where you turn to climb a crazy hill. you'll either hike the bike or granny it up on your lowest gear. once you get to the parking area you'll go through green pilons which has a very stupid steep grade which will feel like you're lungs are ganna explode. you'll either hike the bike up or granny it up while zig zagging you're way up. after a while it'll become gravel but once you get to the top is a nice overview. after that is where the trial starts. its all single track through the whole thing. you gatta watch out and moderate your speed because theres a lot of korean people that like to go hiking there and also like to bring their children along. theres just as much as hike a bike as there are decents. some areas gets really tricky so take you're time. the trail over all is really fun and challenging, i'd only recommend those who are really in good shape, especially when doing this is the summer
