Mountain Biking Chuck Wagon
#13 of 417 mountain bike trails in Arizona
Chuck Wagon was adopted for mountain biking in the spring of 2012. It incorporates the original Chuck Wagon trail with what was once known locally as "Gunslinger." It is laid out in the standard of modern mountain bike trail building and flows nicely. This trail winds its way up and down through a variety of different landscapes, a true display of Sedona's diversity. This trail is fun in both directions and could be ridden as an out and back, or can be linked to Mescal and Long Canyon to make a loop
It is now a new "must ride" for Sedona mountain biking. Do it! You'll like it!

Drive up Dry Creek Road (off 89A at the west end of Sedona) to the junction with FR --- (which goes up to Devils's Arch and Vultee Canyon). Turn onto this dirt road and park along the shoulder. Note: at the end of 2012 a major trailhead construction project was underway a quarter of a mile up this road so you may not have to park on the dirt.

Super fun trail that connects to quite a few other trails. Intermediate trail friendly enough for beginners and fun enough for advanced riders. We connected to about a dozen other trails in the area in the following order (going counter clockwise across NW Sedona): Lizardhead, chuckwagon, mescal, yucca, long canyon, conayon of fools, anaconda, and two forks. There are so many other offshoots to other trail systems you can really mix it up however you like. Super scenic the entire way with some fun downhills into dry river beds and off massive red rocks. Some exposure, but not beyond an intermediate's skill level. Highly recommend and would totally ride again if I ever come back to Arizona!
Thank |Not one of my favorites in the area, but it does have a few fun spots. There's really not a lot of places to just "let-r rip", seems like you're always climbing and the descents are covered with half buried rocks that always seem to be right in your line!
Thank |Rode this trail early in the morning. Really enjoyed the variety of terrain and loved the way some sections were laid out. The route was generally easy to follow with adequate signage. Not too technical like some of the trails in Sedona.
Thank |Awesome single track in Sedona! This was my first ride in Sedona. Started at Mescal trailhead and rode mescal, deadmans pass, long canyon and chuck wagon. Rode these in clockwise fashion and had a blast. Some fun down hills along with some short technical climbs.
Thank |Fantastic views, Fun relatively technical riding, doesn't get much better than Sedona, and this is one of my favorite trails in Sedona
Thank |Great Trail....really fun single track with nice flowing section and some hard rack mixed in. Did big loop parked at Dry Creek Parking area~12 miles Chuck wagon, Long canyon, devils pass, Mescal Mountain and back up chuck wagon to parking lot.
Thank |Good trail with some flowy singletrack and chunky rocks. While not my favorite in this area, it's still worth riding.
Thank |This trail is a blast to ride. There are some techy areas, lots of shade and great views everywhere. We tied Mescal, Deadman and Long Canyon for a 10 mile loop.
Thank |First off, for people not familiar with the area, I just want to clarify getting to the trailhead at Vultee Arch. When coming from the touristy section of Sedona you take a right off of Dry Creek Road on to Vultee Arch. There is no street sign on Vultee Arch, but it is a narrow, newly paved road that leads to a nice trailhead with some parking spots and a few picnic tables, and even a bathroom. This is different from the current satellite photo on Google. Once you park and get your bike out on the dirt, there is a sign which tells you where to go to be on the Chuckwagon trail. Further in on the trail there are more signs and other marks which help keep you on the right track. I only rode in about 3-4 miles, but I experiences some great singletrack. Nice flowy sections, rocky sections, small to medium steps up and down. The scenery and views were amazing.
Thank |This is a most excellent addition to Sedona's portfolio. Lots of relatively gentle climbs, descents, wash crossings, punctuated with periodic advanced moves. The full Chuckwagon ride is a 6.6 mile lolipop loop, but can also be a launching point for a great loop with the super-scenic and unique Mescal trail.
