Mountain Biking Colorado Trail: Fooses Creek

The Fooses Creek section of the Colorado Trail either descends or climbs (depending on which way you ride it) from/to the Monarch Crest and the Continental Divide Trail. If ridden down from the crest, the singletrack is about 5.6 miles long, with steep rocks and scree up top but mellowing out down low where it parallels the creek. If you were to ride this to the next section of singletrack, you'd have to follow Fooses Creek 4x4 Road for 2.7 miles to the junction with Highway 50, where the singletrack picks up on the other side.
If coming uphill on Fooses, the Colorado Trail joins with the CDT at the top of the Continental Divide and then the two trails run south along the divide in tandem for many miles.

Old school horse trail sh*t show. It's part of the CTR so you ride it but don't go out of your way for it.

Rode from the top of Monarch Pass and down Fooses. Relatively quick shuttle ride, 15-20 min or so probably. Monarch's a good warmup, and the Fooses downhill is pretty amazing. Steep, loose, rutted drop-in up top (with epic views), and it stays fairly steep for a while on tight, rooty singletrack. Gets picky for a while, then opens up through the forest, extremely fast, great dirt, occasionally very rocky and semi-technical, but mostly just fast and fun.

Awesome downhill run with enough technical challenge in the first 1/3 to really keep you on your toes.

Fooses creek is a fast, ripping descent! The top section is steep, with the trail mellowing the lower you go. However, while the grade mellows out, the trail straightens out too, allowing you to stay off the brakes and just open it up! This is the first descent off the Monarch Crest so it's only about a 15-mile ride, but it's still well-worth riding!
