This ride starts on a smooth road through a very scenic valley. At Gibbons Pass
go right, the CDT starts very soon after onto singletrack. This section of CDT
has a variety of tread from smooth to rocky, all through pine forest of old burn
from the 2000 fires. You will travel northeast on the divide for a time then the
trail swings around to the southeast.
You will be on the CDT for about 7.5 miles. Leave the CDT to the right at the
first obvious singletrack junction. Here the trail contours down for a mile to
Road 1295.
Watch for the sign marking Elk Creek Trail. Elk Creek Trail is mostly downhill back to Trail Creek.
A great loop to ride if staying at Hogan Cabin.
