The trails in this area are few. For the area this is one of the best options. Its in a fairly populate area so its pretty nice for what it is. Are you going to drive well out of your way to ride it? No. But if you live in the area you will appreciate it. Pluses are it offers some technical terrain but all of it is easy. You cant really get lost but if you do, you just walk for a bit and you will come to a road or...a house. Negatives are that now that its an improved trail thanks to MTBA, many people use it for hiking and horseback riding. Its starting to get crowded so as a mountain biker, you cant just ride all out.

Fun ride.. some smooth with slight inclines and declines. Roots, rock gardens, logs, and a fallen trees occasionally. Watch out for the horses and make sure you know your loop/route in advance. I felt lost at one point and kept going by areas I past several times before

Good trail for beginners like myself. It was my very first mountain bike trail. So had a great time. Need to work on my shifting but that will come with practice practice. Did better on my second lap. Good day for me to go because I was the only one on the trail. Which made it easier for me. (Thursday)

Good trail near Gainesville to ride. I like to mix the laps up each time for variety. Add the Orange loop in your circuit. Ride the Orange Loop starting from both entrances.

I like to ride clockwise from the parking lot first. When you finish the rock garden of the Blue Loop near highway 29, turn right to start the Red Loop for a second loop and ride over the log at the beginning. Ride through the creek crossing before the open area. Where it intersects with the blue , start the Orange from the other end. When you exit the Orange, go right on the Blue, ride until you come across the hard left for the Yellow, and take the left. Ride the Yellow and keep to the right at forks. Turn right out of the open area, and continue till you see the parking lot. 3rd loop- turn left onto the Blue Loop. Take the horse path instead of the hiker route before the bridge to try another creek crossing. There is a sign on a tree denoting which way for hikers and horses. Continue around the Blue loop. Skip the Orange on the last lap. You will end up close to 10 miles. The rock gardens, logs, and rock piles make it fun riding from both parking lot entrances. Three laps is a very good work out. The trail towards the back near the residential area and on the other side near highway 29 tends to have water and/or mud after rain storms. It takes awhile to dry.

Good trail for beginners and an intermediate section. Trail is well kept but could have more work done as far as making it a little more technical. Sometimes there are a lot of hikers tehre on the weekends.

Fun small network of trails right next to I-66 in Gainesville. While there isn't much that is difficult, the Orange loop has several rock gardens and switch backs that will test your skills. Does see a lot of horse traffic, but that has dwindled in the past year

Great ride, but the trail takes a while to dry after a moderate rain fall, so give it a day longer.

Nice trail in a State Forest that is tucked right into a very busy area. Great for a workout after or before work. The trail overall was in great shape. There were a couple of muddy areas but a team of volunteers were working on them while I was there. Hat's off to the volunteers for putting in the time to make improvements and perform maintenance on this trail.

Nice trail system, easily accessible from I66. Most if it is relatively easy, with some log piles and a few creek crossings. There is a more challenging orange trail that is more technical and full of rock gardens.

Very easy flat box trail configuration with a few side branches - wide trail great for a quick ride. A few muddy spots but great fun. Just a few mikes west of Centreville

Fast single track with a few easy rock gardens and small tree jumps. It is a pretty easy trail but still fun. Watch for horses and frequent forestry service work being done.

I like this trail, it is a great place for hikers, bikers and they even have horseback (though I have yet to see any trace other than big piles of crap, would love to actually see a horse on the trails). It is usually pretty busy after work hours but never congested. Great access.

Trail overall is a mix of two track, flat trails, fire road and singletrack. Most singletrack is good and fun with a lot of rocks/roots. Orange trail is by far the most technical with a big climb/decent on either end of it and plenty of tech inbetween.

    Convenient and fun little trail.

This trail is fairly flat. Road it next day after a rain, and it was rather wet but still fun. The blue loop is generally easy with a few rock gardens and log piles. The orange section is the hardest by far with a lot of rock gardens. Check out my ride here http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=1298411

Great trail for the area. Fairly flat and wide all around but the technical areas will definitely try your skills.* Review edited 12/27/2011

Edit** Just want to add there is a sign in the parking lot that notifies users you will need a State Forest Use Permit for MTB.
Also noticed this trail stays wet longer than other trails in the area. So plan on giving it a couple more days after rain and snow to dry out. Not a lot of relief for drainage**

Fun, with some challenging sections. Convenient to RT 66 and the Gainesville area. Great for a quick once around or if you really want to get a workout in just keep linking up the loops. I gave it a 3 because there are other better trails out there but honestly I'd feel real comfortable telling most average weekend riders it is a 4.* Review edited 8/22/2010* Review edited 2/21/2011* Review edited 2/21/2011

I came here expecting it to be totally lame. In fact, there was some great riding in this little parcel of land. Most of it is clearly beginner territory, but there are some challenging stretches. Be sure to hit the Little Bull Run trail in the northeast corner of the area. It has a couple tight switchbacks and some great rock moves. There's only about 4 miles of singletrack in total with another mile or two of doubletrack, but if you're willing to do a couple laps, you can get in a good hour of riding.
