Mountain Biking Coronado Heights
#15 of 90 mountain bike trails in Kansas
A small little bump on the plains but home to unique history and b****in' twin (not identical) downhill runs. Follow the link below to read more about it. 3 mile, figure 8 loop, 60% singletrack totally vertical. Speed increases the difficulty, most can be ridden by beginners but experts will leave smiling as well.

Nice short little trail with emphases on both nice and short. This is a well-conceived, well-designed trail. It very effectively utilizes the limited space and the hill. There are moderately challenging features throughout, and times when you can get moderate speed, but no for long. The more aggressively you ride the trail, the more it comes alive. It is short though, so doing at least a few laps really improves the experience.
Thank |This trail surprised me. We've been doing a lot of riding this winter including all the big major trails in the state, but kind of saved this one for last because I didn't expect much in such limited space. This trail demands your attention at all times... not a dull moment. We did it 5 times today! Great little fun trail. We'll be back soon.
Thank |I only have my overall lack of fitness to blame for my frustration with this trail. Great layout, multiple geographies in a tiny space, bombing downhills, some fun technical rock sections, but ABSOLUTELY no flat parts. You are either climbing or descending and there is no recovery sections. If you are in good riding shape you will love the challenge of this trail.
Thank |What a spectacular place for a trail. The rocks, the roots, and the hill. I haven't had a good rush like that since I rode Camp Horizen. Great lay out and use of this big mound. I didn't think the climb was all that bad the way it switchbacked and took you along the rim of the mound. Great technical challenges on this trail along with the downhill. You can pick up your pace and grab some air in spots. Not a dull spot on this trail in my opinion. The castle adds to the character of the trail. To ride to the bottom and look up is mind boggling knowing you have to climb all the way back up. Outstanding job people!!!!!
Thank |Better ride while you can still the trail, getting more overgrown every day??'?
Thank |This trail is great. It will work you. The guys who keep the trail in condition do a great job and are a great group. Only downside is it is short but this is due to location. Will be back again!!
Thank |Was a fun flowing trail. Little bit of a workout climbing back up, but worth it. I know limited on room, but would be nice if it was a longer trail. Still worth the ride.
Thank |a fun track but too much wind on the hill. rode it twice and it had some technical areas and was nicely maintained
Thank |Great trail for central Kansas. The trail has good flow and is easy to follow for the most part. The trail has a couple sandy spots that can make it though to keep momentum up. The trail is made so you can ride it as a single loop or figure 8 to change it up.
Thank |This trail has good potential! It isn't always well maintained, but still rideable without major issue. Not always well marked, but that makes it easy to change up the route and ride it in a different direction. A small handful of technical spots and some quick, short descents. The descents make it seem like the climb back to the top would be longer and more challenging, but the climb is fairly easy if you are relatively fit.
Would have rated this trail a '4' with better maintenance and trail markings.
Thank |One of the best trails in central Kansas. It is a blast on the downhill trails and the steep trails gives you a good workout. Jumping is also another fun thing there.
Thank |Two trails around 3 miles each. Although short trails they are a lot of fun and provide a good workout. It seems most days that I have been there the wind is crazy on the hill.
Thank |One heck of a workout, more fun each time I ride. When properly maintained it is a blast. There are some steep, rocky ascents and descents but that makes it more challenging.
Thank |Can be treacherous in spots, very poorly maintained.
Thank |A great trail on the hill. I would have given a five star review if it were longer. Sometimes going up the east side I forget that I'm climb in because the trail was laid out so well. Great after work trail that is challenging and fun. Look to Bike Tek in Salina for the closest shop.
Thank |I like this trail. It is not very technical as it winds down the "mound" that Coranado Heights is on, but there are a couple of steep and rocky spots on this trail that could get you hurt if you wipe out. I don't like to crash, especially into rocks. Good smooth flow, nice scenery.
Thank |For a small little track on the plains this is as good as it gets. Great little climbs and sweet downhills through trees and decent views of the plains on the back side.* Review edited 7/8/2010
