Just West of Cascade Falls on CR 162 Cross a bridge to the North side of the Chalk Creek to start on CR 292 westward to St Elmo. This bridge happens right as the pavement ends and the road turns to dirt. Most of the traffic from Nathrop goes on CR 162 and there is a lot of heavy truck w/ATV on trailer type traffic during the bikeable season making 162 a less than pleasant bike. CR 292 on the opposite side of the creek is a much more varied and peaceful ride. It is a 4x4 road with very little technical difficulty and not much traffic. Mostly it is about railroad grade with a few steep pitches. A much better alternative to the last 6 miles of CR162 into St Elmo. One of the other big benefits is that it passes the Iron city Cemetery just before the St Elmo Campground which is the end of the road right as it joins back to CR 162. There is a water pump in the park also as well as rest rooms.
