Mountain Biking Dancing Bear
#239 of 322 mountain bike trails in Michigan
In my humble opinion, Dancing Bear is Copper Harbor's best kept secret for a few reasons. First, it's a ripping old-school descent of 300 feet. I don't know how it turned out this way, but it strikes the perfect balance between technical elements and flow. You still test your technical chops, but you can also go "mach chicken" without ever feeling like your teeth are going to fall out. Additionally, short uphill spurts are mixed in to give your legs a break just when they need it. The other reason why Dancing Bear gets so little attention is that it is overshadowed by its bigger brother, the Red Trail. That part of the trail system is relatively isolated, and people only ever want to make one trip to go to Red Trail. Do yourself a favor, though, and try Dancing Bear -- I'm sure you'll like it.

From Copper Harbor, head up U.S. 41. At the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge, turn left onto Golf Course Road (the lodge road). Near the backside of the golf course you should find De Deet and the Red Trail on your left. Take the Red Trail. Soon Dancing Bear will appear on your right.
