From FR 109, Dan's Trail follows a ridge south for two miles with a descent of 400 feet elevation. It meets with FR 512 at an arroyo bottom then turns north to climb along another ridge. After 1 mile, it turns to the east and descends to another arroyo. It then follows north up a third ridge to return to FR 109 at point 1 ½ miles east of the start. Returning on FR 109 can make a loop.
This trail is an old logging road that connects with other roads. Pay attention to trail markers. Visitors can hike or ride directly from Valentine Ridge Campground following FR 18 and Valentine Trail 551. FR 188 and FR 109 each receive some motor vehicle travel, especially on weekends; caution is required when hiking or riding on these roads. Trail is in a previously burned area. Trail may be hazardous due to downed trees and thick brush and sometimes impassable. Difficulty level: most difficult. source: fs.usda.gov
