A winding dirt path through a dense forest, surrounded by tall trees and scattered fallen branches. The trail follows the natural contours of the hillside, leading deeper into the woodland. Sunlight filters through the canopy, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. Devil

Mountain Biking Devil's Gulch

****   Add a review
#8 of 1,216 mountain bike trails in Washington
#594 in the world

This trail starts out with a steady climb, criss-crossing Mission Creek several times as it heads up the canyon. At roughly 3600' the real fun begins when switchbacks come into play. The last two miles are brutal on the legs and lungs, but the views of the surrounding peaks are incredible. The trail tops out at around 4400'. After a rest and refuel at the top, take the trail back down and enjoy some of the smoothest singletrack in the state. It's fast, dry and demanding on the body, but well worth the extensive climb to the top. I would recommend the in and out route of this trail versus taking the fire road up. Take plenty of fluid and energy bars for this one folks!!!

If you choose not to shuttle, be prepared to work and stay hydrated. It's an epic ride and will demand all riders to grind it out to the top. But, the views are incredible and your reward is a blistering descent.

Smooth, banked turn single track for days. It's sure to have you smiling from ear-to-ear.

Didn't see how to set is as trail conditions. I heard that this trail is booby trapped with fishing line at head level with hooks hanging. From a local trails site.
    Be careful out there.

It is a classic trail. You can ride up it but it is quicker (under 2 hrs) to ride the road (FS RD 7100 to 9712). + you don't get in the way of bikers doing 30+mph riding down. You can also shuttle it if you want. It is a fun and very fast trail that everyone should do!* Review edited 10/22/2008

I would recommend a shuttle to the top! We opted to ride the 11 miles up, and it was KILLER. Starts out ok for the first 2 miles but then the hills are STEEP and non stop. After 4.5 hours up, you are too tired to enjoy going down!! take a shuttle!
