Mountain Biking Devil's Playground

****   Add a review
#72 of 256 mountain bike trails in Wyoming
#5,916 in the world

There is a network of old trails in the Devils Playground area that you can hook up to the trails at Happy Jack and Vedauwoo. Make your own loop or lollipop. Some of the trails are hard to find. Definitely stop at the Pedal House for a map. This particular ride includes about a mile of a 4wheel drive road in the middle. It's fun to explore up there and to make up your own course.

Getting there
Take the Happy Jack Exit Off of I-80. Go past the rest area and take forest service road 705 until you come to Blair Picnic area. Alternatively you can take Old Lincoln Highway east and catch the Blair Wallis road off of that. Less dirt road.

There's lots of miles of trail here of varying quality. There's a good amount of sandy, gravelly stuff and no shortage of cattle-pockmarked roughness. You can explore for days and, even with the map, you'll have some difficulty route finding--bring plenty of water and be self-sufficient. The good parts are good, but the not-so-good parts are two many and too long to recommend this ride with Curt Gowdy and Headquarters/Happy Jack just around the corner.

This particular route has a bit of everything-smooth, rocky, stream crossings, climbs and descents. In some places the trail is wide and some places it's six inches. It's just fun man! Vedauwoo is close (an optional hookup) so there are neat rock formatons and boulders to play on and around.
