Mountain Biking Dobbin House Trail

#30 of 112 mountain bike trails in West Virginia

Leave Pendleton Lake parking, down the double track and cross the wooden bridge onto the singletrack. Note, this is a very rocky and rooty trail. I recommend the clockwise loop after taking in the overlook. Once across the wooden bridge, keep riding staight through. Some technical spots along the way. When you cross the next bridge note the trail on your right up a short steep climb. You will come back to this. Ride about 100 to 200 feet farther down the trail. Watch carefully for a trail that goes to your left. This will be the overlook. I recommend checking it out before returning to the trail noted after crossing the last bridge.
Go back to that trail after enjoying the view, go up the short climb and ride through some beautiful woods. You will make another short very steep climb into an old stripmine area. Go right at this point and just follow the only obvious path. When you come off a short downhill to another old grassy road, go left past a small pond. Follow this trail for about 1/4 mile and watch carefully as you start down a hill. You can fly right past the trail on your right. Watch for the Blue blaze. Take the right off the old logging road and follow that singletrack. You will come to a large field with a highwall in it. The trail will take a 90 degree right turn there and paralell the field. You will come to a very, very, steep technical downhill section. Be extremely carefull if you try to ride down this. The trail then becomes very rooty and will test your arm strength from hanging onto the bars. When you come to a steep drop on your left you are nearing the end. The trail will vier right and then loop around to the left and meet the trail where you came into it. Take a left at that point and ride back across the wooden bridge. Don't forget to stop at Blackwater Bikes for maps and descriptions of many, many more trails in the area. Especially the CVI trails and the Plantation / Canaan loop area.

Getting there
From Davis, WV enter Blackwater Falls State Park. At the 4 way stop, go right, past the campground and take the next road on your right (Pendleton Lake parking). Note the gate on your left just before the parking lot. This is the road you'll want to ride down.
