Mountain Biking Eagle Scout Trail
#20 of 265 mountain bike trails in Montana
The trail is pretty steep at first but there are plenty of switchbacks and it doesnt last that long. once you get to the top of the trail it leads a couple of different ways, one goes back into town, and one leads to the several other trails. some of these trails lead back to town, but one of them leads to mount ascension which is the talled mountain in helena. this is significantly more difficult than the eagle scout trail.

Start going up Davis gulch anywhere in town, and follow it south untill it turns to a dirt road. There should be two parking lots on the left side of the dirt road. One when the road turns to dirt, and one about .3 miles after that. take the second one and there should be a wood chip path leading from the Parking lot to the trail head.

The best way to get to the top of Mt Ascension. The climbing is tough and relentless, but it's not that technical. The hardest parts are a few switchbacks.
Thank |This is the easier, lower part of the Mt Ascension complex. I can't imagine a better trail to take a newby to get him into the sport. It has everything you could ask for in a MTB trail, but in small, non-threatening doses. There's even broad switchbacks on a mellow grade. Start at the lowr trailhead, head up trail, turning left on the Eagle Scout trail. At the intersection after the climb, head right and follow the Archery Range trail. There is some tough climbing and one likely dismount for lower level riders. When you think you've had enough, you'll hit the Entertainment trail--go right for a sweet but short downhill. At the bottom, turn right and head back to the car. If you go left at the Entertainment trail, you'll be on the insane climb up Mt Ascension.* Review edited 10/9/2012
