Mountain Biking Selkh Am East Ridge
#21 of 70 mountain bike trails in Mongolia
From the last bus stop in Selkh Am head 1 km north up the dirt road on your bike until you reach an intersection. Take the right fork and head NE about 800 meter up a smaller road and into the forest to a small intersection. Take a left here and head up the steep mountain slope for another km to ascend the ridge. From there you basically follow the ridge south up and down until you reach the toe of the ridge. Beautiful ride once you get on the slopes and ridges. Mostly singletrack and faint singletrack trails once on the ridge.

Start from the last bus stop in the main valley of Selkh Am.
You can also access the east ridge from the other side of the ridge at the NE corner of the area at Selbe Amaralt (camp). From the camp the quickest way to the top of the east ridge is head due west around the toe of a lower ridge coming down from the north. Once around the toe, follow the trail NW up the slope. It's about a mile climb and 750' of elevation pretty much straight up the fall line. You can also access the east ridge by heading north after you get around the toe of the ridge. There is a nice trail that heads due north contouring up the slope for a couple of miles. It is a nice ride in the forest. In the end it turns NW to obtain the top of the ridge.
Thank |Very fun, beautiful, adventurous area. Once you are on trail, it feels so wild that it's hard to believe you are within the city limits of Ulaanbaatar -- a city of 1.5 million people. Ascending the ridge will require a large amount of hike-a-bike for most riders. Descending is very fast. Riding on the ridges is technical with lots of rock and faint ST. The ridges themselves can have steep technical climbs along with fast, oftentimes technical descents. Beautiful views throughout. I would rank the entire experience 4.5 stars. Really fun.
