It takes patience to ride in an area as densely populated as New York City. Instead of rock gardens, fast drops, mud, slick rock and leafy surfaces there is the meandering tourist, irregular road surfaces, traffic, Citi Bike riders on their phones. (aka rolling road blocks) and pedestrians that expect a cyclist rolling along at cruising speed can stop instantly because pedestrian have the right of way.
With that said, it is still nice riding around in the city, every one should do it ONCE.
