This is the only hiking/biking/equestrian trail on the Truckee Ranger District that is open to motorcycles. It is not suitable for ATVs (3 or 4 wheelers). This moderately difficult trail is 2.5 miles long and provides spectacular vistas of Lake Tahoe, Desolation Valley and Loon Lake. Take Highway 89 South from Tahoe City four miles to Blackwood Canyon Road and turn west. Continue up Blackwood Canyon to Barker Pass Road. Ellis Peak trail is on the left 50 feet beyond the end of the paved road.
